I glanced at the clock only to find out, there was still some time left until dinner. So I decided to scroll through my phone for some time taking a break from studies. Though studying hard all day long feels tiring, I know it's going to bring some satisfactory outcome for me. But breaks are important too.
I am Maha, preparing to get admission in my dream university. And the test for that is in 2 and a half months.
Suddenly I heard the door of my room opening with a bang. It was Adam, my troublemaker.
"Api, do you know this room is gonna be all mine now, YAYYYY!!" He jumped and landed on my bed while screaming, spreading his arms wide.
"Why would that happen? This is my room and will forever be mine." I spoke with a sigh, turning myself to face him.
"You won't be here to occupy this room once you get married. And so, this is gonna be mine very soon." He said while sitting up.
"Stop daydreaming. This room will be mine forever. And I'm not going to get married so early." I replied wrapping my arms over my chest.
"If you think so, then get yourself ready for a shock. Because Baba is talking over the phone to someone regarding your marriage. You can go check yourself if you can't believe me.'' he got up and walked out of the room dramatically throwing a flying kiss towards me, to which I rolled my eyes and concentrated on scrolling through my phone again.
Saad's POVI came back home from office just to see that mom is not home. I found a note left by her which says,
''I have left your food on the table. Please, heat it up and enjoy. I'll be back by 8. Take care love." I smiled thinking what a cutie my mom is and made my way towards my room.
After I devoured the yummy meal left by my mom, I was scrolling through my phone. I saw some pictures from last nights party.
I remembered about that certain girl out of the blue, who sure grabbed my attention. I noticed she was chatting and having fun with the other girls, but was not interested in taking any pictures like them neither was she wearing any makeup. It really amazed me. Just then, I heard the doorbell ringing and realised mom was back.
"Assalamualaikum, honey. How was your day?" She asked as soon as I opened the door.
"Walaikum assalam. It was great. Where had you gone? I really missed you." I questioned her.
"I went to see your uncle and aunt." She answered.
"How are they?"
"Alhamdulillah, great. By the way, I have something to tell you. Actually, I have a surprise for you. You'll get to know about it in sometime." She said grinning, being all excited.
''Okay'' I replied flashing a smile, which according to her resembles my dad's smile.
I felt mom behaved a bit differently since she came back. But I still decided to wait for her to share it with me by herself rather than interrogating her.
Maha's POV
"I saw my parents behave suspiciously today. And now Adam is saying he saw them discussing about my marriage. I don't want to go away from my parents so soon." I whined to my bestfriend Farin as I was very bothered.
"Don't get so worried. I don't think they will not consider your opinion in such a matter. They definitely will take the right decision for you and will do that after discussing to you." She assured me.
"In sha allah. I hope so." I sighed.
"Maha, come here.", just then my mom called me from her room.
I hung up the call and went to my parents room. I saw both of them sitting there along with the lady whose daughter just got married last night. She was taking her leave when I reached the room. Baba asked me to sit and said he wanted to discuss something important. Beads of sweat formed in my palms in nervousness as my brain was signalling me towards Adam's words.
I sat and he started talking about the same thing. Although I was feeling anxious now, I tried to calm myself and listen to them first. Mom held my hand and started caressing it noticing my nervousness. They both assured me that they are not going to do anything against my will.
"Even we don't want to marry you off so early, dear. But the family is insisting to meet us once for now only. We don't want to let our only daughter go far from us so soon." mom spoke.
"If you are comfortable then we will invite them on this Sunday. We were not willing to do that too but Mrs.Ahmed was requesting us to meet them as the boy's mom is adamant about it. It will seem really bad if we say no to her." Baba said and waited for me to speak.
"I think we can meet them once. What are your thoughts, dear?" Mom said again as I was not speaking, not being able to speak to be precise.
