Chapter 4

Newts Pov

“T-thomas i remember my name im Thomas!!” He says happily as the other boys cheer and laugh.”Good job…Thomas.” Gally says as I walk over with Alex. “Welcome Thomas im Alex.” She says as they both were smiling until we all hear a loud screeching from the grievers in the maze. “What the hell was that..?” Thomas asked, hearing Gally. “That my friend is called a griever, don't worry you are safe here.” He says as Alby claps his hands.

“Alright time to call it a night everyone heads to bed.” He says as everyone starts to head to bed. I walked over to Alex patting her shoulder. “Come on Alex, I'll walk you to your bed.” I said as I saw her nod her head following me to the shack as we stood at the hammock. “Thanks Newt.” she says, kissing my cheek. 

I blushed a bit, from the kiss that Alex had left on my cheek as I watched her go into the shack. She's so cute I thought while walking back to my own shack seeing Minho, Gally and Alby all getting ready for bed. Damn it I was still blushing a bit I could feel my warm cheeks. I headed over to my own hammock limping.

“What has you all blushy?” Minho asks, looking at me causing me to blush more. “Uh nothing go to sleep you shank.” I said laying down and covering up with my jacket hearing Minho chuckle slowly falling asleep after some time.

Alex pov

I woke up hearing a gasp and looked over seeing Alby and Thomas walking away. I wanted to go back to sleep so badly but decided to get up and head to Frypan’s kitchen as I walked in looking at Frypan and seeing Minho with the other runners. “Yo Alex, you were with Newt last night, what happened between you two?” Minho asks, walking over next to me.

“What do you mean?” I asked getting my food from Fry. “Well Newt was blushing like crazy so what did you do?” He asks, smirking, causing fry to lean closer. “Wait, did you two kiss or something?” Fry asks, looking at me making me blush.

“I-I uhm kiss his cheek now will you two stop.” I said as Minho and Fry laughed as Gally walked over. “Are you supposed to be in the maze right now Minho?” Gally said annoyed that they were hogging the line. “Well Gally you're not the boss of me just because we are all in the council together doesn't mean you can tell others what to do.” Minho says, snapping at him as Gally rolls his eyes.

“Greenie, you need to find your job.” Gally says as Minho grabs my arm and pulls me away. “If you wanna be a runner you have to train and ask permission from Alby and Newt.” Minho says as I nod my head and sit down waving at Minho as he leaves heading to the maze to run.

After breakfast I walked to the garden seeing Thomas, Zart and Newt working. “Hey guys.” I said waving at them three. “Hey Alex, are you coming to work with us?” Newt asks as I nod my head and start to help with the plants hearing Thomas talking. “Has anyone tried climbing the vines to the top?” He asks as Newt sighs. “The vines don't go all the way up to the top even if you do make it where would you go from there?” Newt asks as Thomas keeps asking question after question while I work.

“Look you wanna help yea well go get fertilizer.” Newt says, tossing the bucket at Thomas as he walks away from them. “Newt he only wants to get out of this place…also if i train can i be a runner?” I asked, looking up at Newt hearing him sigh. “No…I don't want you getting hurt now work.” Newt says making me pout a bit heading back to working on the plants and that.

After a few minutes of working we all can hear screams and cries of help. “Help somebody help!!!!” Thomas cries out. I quickly stand up seeing Ben chasing after Thomas eyes widening from fear we all ran over to help get Ben off of Thomas.

“Hey Ben!!” Newt yells hitting Ben off of Thomas as Newt and the others hold down Ben on the ground to stop him from hurting anyone else. I quickly help Thomas up, shaking as Fry looks at Thomas. “What the hell happened out there?” He asks as Thomas catches his breath holding onto my arm keeping me away from Ben.

“I don't know he just attacked me out of nowhere. Thomas says watching as Alby walks over listening. “Alright lift his shirt!” He says as Gally lifts up Ben's shirt showing a big sting mark. “He's been stung…in the middle of the day..?” Gally says looking around at the others. “Okay guys take him to the pit.” Alby says as they pick up Ben walking over to the pits hearing Ben yelling.

“It's their fault! Those two did this to us!!” Ben says loudly as I grab Thomas' arm seeing blood and finger marks. “Let's get you to medjacks.” I said, leading him to the place and lets Jeff put a bandage around Thomas' injury as Alby walks over. “Hey Thomas you okay?” He asks as Thomas nods his head.

“What's going on with him?” Thomas asks. “It’s called the changing that happens when you get stung by the grievers…look he's not making much sense did he say anything to you?” Alby asks, looking at Thomas then at Chuck and me. “Uhm ya he said that all of this is mine and Alex fault…how is this our fault?” Thomas asks, looking at Alby. “I don't know but get some rest..” Alby says standing up to leave. “Alby what’s going to happen to him?” He asks as Alby looks at him and walks away without saying anything.

Once night time came and the doors started to close for the night I walked over to the doors seeing everyone with poles and sticks. I don't like this at all…what is going to happen to him. I stand next to Thomas and Chuck watching as Minho brings Ben over tied up, taking him up to the doors.

Me and Thomas watch in shock as Minho cuts the ropes that were around Ben and throws his drink and food inside the maze. “Poles! Move in!” Alby yells as everyone starts to move in, not letting Ben escape or anything. I felt bad that Ben was being banished into the maze. He was screaming and crying his eyes out saying that he will be better.

Once the maze doors closed everyone looked down or at each other. “He belongs to the maze now..” Alby says walking away as I had teary eyes. Newt walks over grabbing my hand pulling me away mad and jealous again. “N-Newt you okay why are you dragging me?” I asked looking up at Newt not knowing that he was mad at me for letting Thomas hold onto my arm when the stuff happened with Ben.

“Nothing, it's time for bed. I wanted to walk you to the shack.” Newt says stopping at the shack. “Thanks Newtie.” I said kissing his cheek about to walk in until I felt a hand pull me back and into a tight warm hug as Newt kissed my cheek whispering. “Thanks love..” Newt says walking off leaving me standing there alone and blushing madly as I walk into the shack and lays down on my hammock wishing I could have hugged Newt back.

What is going on? Why do I feel so weird around him? I feel happy and safe when I'm with him. I sigh looking up at the sky through a crack in the hut ceiling. I slowly closed my eyes, falling asleep.
