Chapter 6

Newts Pov

Me and the others had all slept by the maze door waiting for Alex, Minho and Thomas with Alby. I'm worried about her and I don't understand why but I woke up to hear Chuck yelling at us all. “Guys wake up the maze is opening!” Chuck says as me and all the others stand up walking over to Chuck.

I frowned not seeing Alex or my friends. “Told you Chuck they are not coming back..” I said walking away with the others as I  started to tear up. I lost her…and my friends. “No way..” Zart says shocked to see all four of them walking up as Chuck cheers happily causing the others to gather around. Holy shit she is alive and so are the others!

Alex pov

I followed Thomas and Minho as they put Alby down onto the ground as everyone was asking questions. “Did you see a griever?” Chuck asks as Thomas looks at me. “Ya we did” He says as Minho clears his throat. “They didn't just see it, they killed it.” Minho says as everyone looks at me and Thomas as I see Gally looking pissed off. "Time for a meeting." He says to everyone once Alby was put up.

Me and Thomas sat in the chairs behind Gally and the others. "Love and Tommy sit down and don't say bloody anything" Newt says, looking at us two as Gally looks at Newt. "Newt, why the nicknames? Are you in love with the Greenies?" Gally asks as Newt rolls his eyes as everyone is talking.

"Everyone settle down, you all came with questions and even asking for their hand in bloody marriage this is a serious meeting so be quiet." Newt says, nodding to Gally as he leans against the post. I wanted to say something about the marriage thing but decided to stay quiet because I was actually a bit scared what would happen to me and Thomas.

"Things are changing. There's no denying that. First Ben gets stung in broad daylight, and then Alby, and now our two Greenies here have taken it upon themselves to go into the maze, which is a clear violation of our rules here." Gally says, looking around.

"Yeah... but he saved Alby's life." Fry says, looking at Gally. "Did they? For three years, we have coexisted with these things, and now they killed one of them. Who knows what that could mean for us.?" He asks as Newt glares at Gally. "Well, what do you suggest we do?" Newt asks

"They have to be punished." Gally says pointing at Me and Thomas as I fidget with my fingers. "Minho. You were there with them. What do you think?" Newt asks, looking at Minho. "I think in all the time we've been here, no one's ever killed a Griever before. When I turned tail and ran, those two dumb shanks stayed behind to help Alby. Look, I don't know if they are brave or stupid, but whatever it is, we need more of it. I say we make them a Runner." Minho says as Newt smiles a bit.

"A Runner? What? Minho, let's not jump the gun here, all right? All right?" Fry asks, watching as Chuck and the others all started talking and gossiping. Newt sighs and looks around. "Look, if you want to throw the newbies a parade, that's fine. Go ahead, but if there is one thing I know about the maze, it is that you do not…" Gally was suddenly cut off by an alarm going off realizing it was the box coming up everyone took off running to the box.

Me and Thomas walked out of the hut. "Wait, I know that sound…" Thomas says looking at where everyone was running to. "It's the box it's coming back up." Chuck says running after the others. "It shouldn't be" Minho says as the three run after as they come up to the crowd of boys, me and Thomas push through the boys.

"What do you see Newt?" Winston asks, looking down at Newt and the new person. "It's a girl." Newt says looking up at the others. "What's in her hand?" Gally asks as Newt leans down, picking up the paper. "She's the last one ever…what the hell does that mean?" Newt asks as the girl wakes up gasping for air.

"T-thomas…Alex" she says before falling back asleep. Me and Thomas stand there in shock as everyone looks at us two. "Still think I'm overreacting?" Gally asks, looking at the others as the two medjacks take her to the medical hut, letting her sleep.

Me, Minho and Thomas walk into the hut and look around. I walk up and look at the girl as Thomas does the same. Newt sees and sighs. "Well, do you two bloody know her?" Newt asks as Me and Thomas shakes our heads no. "You sure cause it seems like she recognized you two." Newt says glaring at us both. After a bit of talking Thomas and Minho leave the hut as I was about to follow but felt a hand on mine causing me to look up seeing Newt.

"We need to talk…" Newt says as I nod. "Okay let's go talk Newtie" I said following Newt out as they found a private place to talk. "What happened between you and Thomas?" Newt asks, looking at me and I was confused by what he meant. "Nothing happened, why?" I asked as Newt sighs.

"Minho said you two seemed really close in the maze…" He says clenching his fists as I see and grabs his hands. "Nothing happened, I promise Newt." I said looking up at him. "Okay I believe you love.." Newt says kissing my head walking away to work as I stand there blushing from the kiss.

A few hours passed when the maze doors slowly closed. Thomas, Minho and the others were in the meeting hut as I went following Minho inside. "We found this. It was inside a Griever." Thomas says looking at Newt and Gally as Newt looks at the strange key. "These are the same letters we get in our supplies." Newt says looking up at them.

"Yeah. Whoever put us here obviously made the Grievers. Now, this is the first real clue, the first anything, you've found in over three years. Right, Minho?" Thomas says, looking over at Minho as he nods his head. "Right," He says looking at Newt with his arms crossed. "Newt, we gotta go back out there. Who knows where this might lead us." Thomas says seeing me walking over to them all.

"You see what he is trying to do, right? First him and Alex breaks our rules and then he tries to convince us to abandon them totally. The rules are the only thing that have ever held us together. Why now are we questioning that? If Alby was here, you know he'd agree with me. These shanks need to be punished." Gally says mad.

"You're right. Thomas broke the rules. One night in the Pit and no food." Newt says handing the key back to Minho. "Oh, come on, Newt. One night in the Pit? You think that's gonna stop him from going into the maze and what about Alex, what's her punishment? Just cause she's a girl doesn't mean she doesn't get one." Gally asks, watching.

"Alex will join him and no we can't just have non-runners running into the maze whenever they feel like it, so let's just make this official ya starting tomorrow Alex and Thomas are runners." Newt says leaning against the pole. "Wow" Gally says walking up the stairs more mad than before. "Gally…" Fry says following after him worried about his friend.

"Nah Fry" He says, pushing Fry's hand away as he leaves the hut with the others following close behind. "Thanks Newt" Thomas says looking at me then at Newt as Thomas and Minho leaves. "Alex, I'll talk to you later about the plan. Also, you two love birds talk about everything!" Minho says leaving me and Newt alone and blushing. Damn him but that's when it hit me I do remember that girl she was in my dreams…I might wanna keep that to myself though.
