As the days went by, Charles seemed to vanish into thin air more frequently. It was as if he had unlocked a secret portal to another world.
Each time he disappeared, a sense of mystery and curiosity filled the air. The moments leading up to his vanishing acts were always shrouded in an eerie silence.
Neo and Charles sat together, their conversation flowing effortlessly. They shared stories of their day, laughter filling the air. But just as the warmth of their connection enveloped them, Charles' phone rang, shattering the tranquility of the moment.
Neo: (laughing) And then you know how he acted...
Ring... Ring... Ring..
Charles (standing up : Oh I'm sorry Neo.. I need to go.. Hope you don't mind. Please excuse me...
Neo with a slight nod : Hmm.. okay.
With a sense of urgency, Charles excused himself and hurriedly left, leaving Neo in a state of confusion. Thoughts swirled in Neo's mind, wondering what could have caused such a sudden departure.
Days passed, and Neo found himself gazing out of the bakery window. The sun showered it's golden rays on the street in as Charles swept diligently outside.
Neo's heart skipped a beat as he caught sight of his friend. With a bright smile, Neo stepped out of the bakery and waved at Charles, hoping to share a moment of joy.
Charles returned the wave, a flicker of happiness in his eyes. But just as the connection between them seemed to solidify, Charles' phone rang once again, demanding his attention. He hurriedly retreated back inside, leaving Neo standing there, a mix of excitement and anxiety coursing through his veins.
Neo stood there, lost in his own thoughts, contemplating the meaning behind these abrupt interruptions.
The air was tinged with a sense of unease, as if the universe was playing a cruel game of hide-and-seek.
Neo couldn't help but wonder what secrets lay hidden behind those phone calls, and how they affected the delicate balance of their relationship.
As the days turned into weeks, Neo's curiosity grew, fueling a desire to unravel the mystery that seemed to surround Charles.
Neo finally decides to confront Charles at his bakery, determined to uncover the truth. He doesn't want them to drift apart. He wanted to know why Charles always disappeared when that person called.
Neo's heart pounded with a mix of determination and concern as he made his way to Charles' bakery.
The familiar scent of freshly baked bread filled the air, but Neo's focus was solely on finding answers to the mystery that had been consuming his thoughts.
With each step, Neo's mind raced, replaying the moments when Charles had abruptly left their conversations.
As Neo entered the bakery, the sound of soft chatter and the clinking of utensils filled his ears. The warm, inviting atmosphere seemed to contrast with the weight of the questions that hung in the air.
Neo's eyes scanned the room, searching for Charles amidst the flurry of activity.
And there, at the counter, stood Charles, his hands covered in flour, his brow furrowed in concentration. Neo approached him cautiously, his voice filled with a mix of curiosity and concern.
Neo: Charles!
Charles looked up, surprise flickering in his eyes. He wiped his hands on his apron and motioned for Neo to follow him to a quieter corner of the bakery.
Charles: Oh Neo!! Hii, let's sit down and talk.
As they settled into a cozy nook, the scent of freshly baked donuts enveloped them, creating a sense of comfort amidst the brewing storm of emotions.
With a deep breath, Neo continued,
Neo: Well are you free? You'll not disappear again right?
Charles looked at his phone, turned it to silent and said,
Charles: Oh I'm Sorry about that. I'm here I'll not go anywhere. What happened? Why did you come here?
Neo: Uhm... I wanted to ask you that..
Neo wanted to say lots of things. He wanted to bombard Charles with his question.. but he didn't seem to have words for it. Charles was look at him eagerly waiting for him complete his sentance.
Neo: I wanted to ask you.. If you are free this Saturday?
(Oh shit..) Neo mumbled
Charles: This Saturday?
Neo: Yes.. There is an art gallery I really want to visit. You like art too... So I thought maybe we can go together.. What do you say?
Charles: (Smiled) Sure. I'm in.
Neo muttered slowly down his breath...
Neo: It's okay if you don't wanna. I'll not force you... Wait a sec You said what???
Charles: I said, Yes sure.
Neo was shocked he asked,
Neo: Really??? You don't have any prior appointments that day?? You'll go with me???
It was the first time Neo asked Charles out. The tables had turned, as it had always been Charles who initiated their outings.
Charles couldn't help but feel a surge of joy and excitement upon realizing that Neo had taken the initiative this time. A wide smile spread across Charles' face, his eyes twinkling with happiness.
Neo stood up in enjoyment and said,
Neo: At 1pm we will meet at the subway. Be ready!!!
With a shared smile, Neo returned to his bustling bakery. He got anxious when he realised he didn't talk to Charles about the phone call. He sighed and said
Neo: I'll ask him at the art museum. It's okay.. I can do it... I'll ask him there..
