The "in love with the best friend" trope is one that has been used time and time again, but the author has managed to explore and master it nearly to perfection in this book.
The Trouble With Kissing Connor is about a girl who is in utterly love with her best friend. One night, at a party, in the dark, she kisses him and not knowing who she is, he is set on finding her. However, all he knows about her is the fact that she chews minty-cinnamon gum. The problem now is, being his best friend, she's inclined to help him, but what if he finds out that it was her who kissed him? What then?
As we read through the book, we watch the struggle of a young girl falling deeper and deeper in love with someone who is clueless to her feelings. The author evokes feelings of joy, happiness and sometimes even sadness with their writing style. The book makes you want to smile nearly every step of the way. Not only that, but the fact that it is written from the main character, Sadie's point of view, allows the reader to be able to connect more with her.
I commend the author for keeping the book at a steady pace throughout the book and not once losing the attention of the reader. Sadie's character development is absolutely splendid and not too exaggerated. We see aspects of first loves and families uniting as well as a bit of life during the last few months of one's high school year.
In addition to that, there are scenes that will give you a hearty laugh and others that will leave you unexpectedly surprised. Overall, the author was able to bring us a lighthearted book packed with relatable moments and some pretty great advice.
This is a book one would not be able to put down easily once they've picked it up and for that, I applaud the Author for their amazing work.
Recommendation:
To teen fiction lovers or those looking for a lighthearted book that will make them smile.
