What wasn't there before |Sanemi Shinazugawa x Reader|

A few months had passed since you last Sanemi, your mind often drifting back to the moment when you had given Sanemi the ohagi. You had hoped he had enjoyed it to the very last bite.

You smiled to yourself  at the thought of it. Right now you were making your way back to the Butterfly Mansion to meet up with Shinobu who you will be teaming up with in an upcoming mission. As you neared the entrance of the mansion you saw a tall figure leaning towards the gate entrance. You squinted your eyes to get a better view of the figure, the figure was slightly taller than you, with long black hair, and a two sides haori. You eyes widened as you ran towards the figure.

You leaped into the arms of the figure, "GIYU!"

The said figure caught you in his arms and smiled, "Long time no see (Y/N)."

You gave Giyu a tight hug and let go to look at his face, "What are you doing here?"

"I guess you haven't heard, but i'll be joining you on your mission to investigate the demon sighting", Giyu said.

Your eyes lite up in excitement, "This is so exciting! This will be the first mission we've ever been in together."

Giyu nodded in approval, "Let's do our best."

As you two were catching up, you motioned to Giyu to go inside the Butterfly Mansion, "I want to introduce you to the other member of our mission, remember how I told you before I meet you I lived in a small village. Well guess what! My childhood friend is one of the ones who runs this place, she's a demon slayer just like us", you said.

As you two made your way inside the mansion, you see Shinobu standing outside next to the wisteria tree, you ran towards her.

"Shinobu!"

Shinobu turned around towards you and smiled, you stopped mid run when you saw the person behind her, his white hair blowing gently with the wisteria leaves.

"Sanemi...", you whispered while blushing deeply. You had not expected him to be here of all times.

Giyu had caught up behind you and watched the look on your face. He eyes drifted from yours to Sanemi and Giyu smirked. He nudged your shoulder to get your attention back.

You blinked and looked around nervously, "It's nice to see you again Shinazugawa-san."

Sanemi looked at your with a blank expression, "Likewise Hara-san."

You didn't know what else to say and it was just getting more and more awkward. Giyu finally decided to step in, "Long time no see Shinazugawa-san, I know we see eachother during the Hashira meetings, but I never got to give you a proper thank you for returning our brothers belongings. So thank you." Giyu bowed.

Sanemi crossed his arms and turned his head to the side, "It would be too troublesome if I didn't...."

You finally recovered enough of your mind and turned towards your brother, "Giyu! This is Shinobu the one I was telling you about."

Giyu looked over at Shinobu and raised his arm to offer a handshake, "Nice to officially meet you Shinobu-san."

Shinobu accepted the handshake and smiled, "We've meet before Tomioka-san, you're the Hashira with no friends right?"

Giyu flinched, "I have friends...."

You snickered at Shinobu's comment, she always had to go for a persons weak point. As Giyu and Shinobu continued on to that conversation you made your way to Sanemi.

You moved your hands behind your back, "What are you doing here Shinazugawa-san? Were you perhaps recovering here?"

Sanemi looked directly to your face, "No I'm here to join your group on the mission as well, apparently they thought it would be a good idea to have two hashira tag along on your mission."

 "Really? That's great!", You wouldn't show it, but the fact that Sanemi was joining the mission made you so happy. 

"Ara ara, what an energetic group your four are."

The four of you looked over to see the source of the voice, it was Kanae Kochou who was smiling from ear to ear.

The pit of your stomach sunk, as much as your adored Kanae as of lately you have no been the happiest to see her especially when Sanemi was around. Your eyes discreetly looked to the side to see Sanemi gently smiling at Kanae. Your eyes drifted to the floor at the sight of this and your hands turning into a tight fist. You hide your hands behind your back trying to get control of your emotions, but Shinobu and Giyu noticed immediately. They both looked at each other with disapproving looks.

Shinobu looked at her sister, " Onee-san, we were just getting ready to leave on our mission."

Kanae smiled, "Ok, I wish you all the best on your mission. Come back safely."

Yourself, Shinobu and Giyu all bowed to her and started to make your way to the front entrance, but Sanemi fell back. As Shinobu and Giyu lead the way, you followed behind but couldn't help but look back to see what was holding Sanemi back. You wish you hand't, Sanemi was saying goodbye to Kanae with a gently kiss to her cheek.

You teared your head away from the view. Of course....Sanemi and Kanae were together...why had you been so stupid and not noticed before. You rushed forward to get away from the view and made your way past Giyu and Shinobu. 

Tears were brimming at the edge of your eyes and you were trying your best to not let them fall. Shinobu and Giyu ran to catch up to you and found you on your knees at the entrance with your head tucked in. 

Shinobu kneeled down to you and rubbed your back, "I guess you haven't told him yet have you."

You looked up to Shinobu with one tear falling down your cheek, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Shinobu smiled and whipped the tear from your cheek, "Why don't you just tell him about the hairpin already."

Your eyes looked down, "You know I can't.... especially now"

Giyu stood in front of you while looking back to where Sanemi and Kanae were, "I'm more surprised he hasn't figured it out yet...."

You sniffled, feeling defeated. "I'm an idiot."

Shinobu shook her head, "No you're not, he's the idiot for not realizing who you were."

Giyu nodded in agreement, "It's his loss, so instead of mopping over him let's put your focus on the mission for a good distraction."

You rubbed your eyes and nodded. It hurt to see the boy your liked to be with someone who you've always admired, but you shouldn't thinking about it right now. You had a mission to take care of.

You stood up and smiled at Giyu and Shinobu, "Thank you."

Shinobu smiled and hooked her arms with yours, "Who cares about boys anyway they are all useless!"

Giyu glared at Shinobu, "Excuse you?"

Shinobu smirked, "Your excused." Which made Giyu face palm his forehead.

You giggled at their antics, "Ok come on you two let's get ready for our mission."

"Ok!" they both said in unision, as Giyu led the way with you and Shinobu following right behind.
