"My parents have work until five and are planning to have dinner with us at six, so that leaves about four whole hours to ourselves." I said as Ares took the backroads to my house. "We could go out and I could show you around town or we could just relax back at my house.""Whatever you want is good with me." Ares was being very chivalrous. He would normally plan the day to the very hour but was going with the flow this time.
"My house it is."
We were about an hour away when I started getting hungry. There was insane traffic so I proposed getting fast food on the way. I told him which roads to take and we got to a McDonald's in about half an hour.
There were about ten people in front of us but the line moved quickly.
I scanned the menu.
"It's been so long since I've had McDonald's. If I got French fries, would you help me eat some? Or should we get hash browns? I can't remember if they serve breakfast all day. I might want soft serve after depending on how hungry I am, though their machine seems to break down whenever I come here. Oh, I forgot about the McFlurrys."
Everything looked so good it was impossible to pick. It also didn't help that the smell of greasy food was making me ravenous.
"Next!" The cashier impatiently called us forward and I had to make a decision fast. "What can I get you?"
"Hi, can I get a number five, a medium fry and a medium drink please."
"Anything else?"
I turned to Ares. "What are you going to get?"
"The same as you."
I raised an eyebrow. He did know that I was getting a vegetarian burger, right? "Make it two, please. Oh and is your ice cream machine working?"
"No, sorry. Is that all?" The cashier asked.
I looked at Ares and he was already putting cash on the counter.
"Keep the change."
She counted the money and gave us the receipt.
"Thanks, should be ready in five minutes," The cashier shouted the order to the line cooks and called the next customer in line. "Next!"
We found a booth in the corner by the window and put our stuff down, then we got up to fill our drinks. Funny enough, Ares liked Sprite, too. It was almost as if he were copying me.
"McDonald's doesn't have good dessert anyway. We can go get pie at the Big City Diner instead." I was saying as we got napkins and condiments. "Three cups of ketchup should be enough, right?"
The cashier called our order number and Ares went to get it.
I basically devoured my food once the tray hit the table. I started with a few bites of my vegetarian burger and then dipped some fries in ketchup.
Ares, on the other hand, unwrapped his burger like it was a present. He looked at it carefully, almost as if it were his first time eating fast food. . .
"Have you never had McDonald's?" A smile crept its way onto my face when I figured it out.
"It's not that I've never had it."
"But you can count how many times you've been to a fast food restaurant." I knew there had to be an explanation as to why he would get a meatless burger.
"Is that bad?"
"Not at all. It's actually kind of cute." I dipped a fry in ketchup and offered it to him. "When's the last time you were around humans?"
