"SO WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO do with this?" Noah asked.

Olivia held the grimoire in her hands, rubbing her hands over the binding. "I have no idea." she answered. "I'm assuming we're supposed to look for answers?"

"Answers to what exactly?" Noah asked.

Kendrick returned from the kitchen with three glasses of cold water. He handed them each one and joined them by sitting on the carpeted floor.

They went to Kendrick's house after their visit to Stuart House. Though scarred both internally and externally, the three of them were okay as far as things went.

"Okay, what do we know so far?" Olivia asked. She tossed the grimoire onto the coffee table.

"We know that there's some kind of monster in Marbel." Kendrick said, his hands rubbing together. "We know that this thing is somehow responsible for the disappearance of the children, as well as the murder of Old Lady McKay. This grimoire is supposed to help us kill it. I don't know how we're supposed to do that after this thing just handed our asses to us in that basement."

"How did you escape it, Olivia?" Noah asked her.

Olivia shrugged. "I just refused to give in to its mind-tricks."

"Mind-tricks?" Kendrick scoffed. "Does this look like mind-tricks to you?" He motioned to the bruises on his neck.

"Well, obviously this thing can hurt you if you're actually scared of it." Olivia stated matter-of-factly. "How do you think I got this?" She gestured to her bandaged leg.

"Wait, that thing did this to you?" Kendrick asked, shock and a hint of rage rising in his throat.

"Yep," Olivia said, nodding sadly.

"Why didn't you say anything?" Kendrick seemed deeply concerned, which irritated Olivia more on how dense he was.

"You think my parents, or anyone for that matter, would have believed me if I said a demonic intruder broke into the house, made itself appear as my sister who disappeared alongside millions of other kids, and then attacked me with a knitting needle?" Olivia laughed. "Sounds pretty believable, if you ask me."

"You guys realize we're talking about something that shouldn't even exist?" Noah said after taking a sip from the water.

"Hundreds of millions of kids disappeared off the face of the Earth, Noah. The fact that a monster — which somehow changes reality — shouldn't be a surprise." Olivia said.

"But why in Marbel?" Kendrick asked, turning to the grimoire. "Why's it here? Where did it come from? And why did Old Lady McKay want us to kill it?"

"Christ, let's just open the fucking book already." Olivia reached out and picked up the book once again. She opened it and carefully flipped through the hardened yellow pages. The first page had an introductory paragraph translated to English right underneath.

"This journal serves as a bearer of testaments gathered by many." she read. "These testaments are of everyone who have come in contact with the pure evil that has visited our world before mankind learned to keep record of their own existence. Alongside it are tales of the effects of this pure evil, as well as methods of protecting one from it or in rare cases even fighting against it."
