He unfortunately has the pollution disease, which is not harmful but it will cause him to cough a lot. To avoid coughing on people, he has to wear the mask he considers annoying.
China has his own aquarium in his basement that he regularly checks on. (Reference to the fact China has one of the biggest aquariums in the world) Which mean his water and electric bill is high.

He breeds them and then sells them to people or pet companies as a side job. If he can't check in on his fishes, he'll have Hong Kong, Macau or one of the BRICS do it for him.
Due to him having so many fishes, he refuses to eat fish. Unless it's tuna or salmon then maybe.

Taiwan/Republic of China is his older brother as Qing Dynasty is his father. Hong Kong and Macau live with him. His biological mother is unknown since she died by giving birth to him. So he thinks his second mother was his actual mother.
Yeah China's second mother wasn't the best wife.
His mother cheated on Qing Dynasty with B.E, resulting in Hong Kong and then made P.E drunk and slept with him, resulting in Macau.
Taiwan and China had a good relationship until the Cold War began. Then it went downhill.
Due to the curse that was lay upon this family, with the youngest killing their siblings and the parents, China attempted to kill Taiwan right before America walked in, where she managed to snap him out of it. Qing Dynasty was dead before it happen.
In which she beat his ass and knocked him unconscious. Taiwan ended up moving away from the house to avoid getting murdered in his sleep since he's unsure if the curse will affect China again. Macau and Hong Kong were spared since they weren't related to China and were European colonies. Meaning the curse didn't had any affects on them.
The curse is theorized to have started from the Three Kingdoms (Shu, Wu and Wei) who were brothers that fought each other to the death to represent the Chinese Family. Wei was the oldest as Wu was the youngest. Before Wei (Jin Dynasty) killed Wu, Wu cursed his own family that the youngest will kill their siblings once they reached the age of 17. China didn't had a good past. No, Qing Dynasty was not a terrible person.
It was... Imperial who made him not have a good past.
She traumatized China so much that he doesn't want to say what happen in the basement. All the Allies knew was that when they saved China, he was covered in so many scars and bruises. He was on the brink of falling unconscious.
There have been theories on how China became homophobic. Some of them suggest that her supporters (supporters often represent the CH's army in terms of war)...did something to him. (Hint on reference: The 13th of December during the 20th century).
Another note is that he was held hostage in an different cell rather than the basement. So no other country knows what happen to him.
Once WW2 was over, he started disliking his older brother since he wonders why his older brother didn't save him sooner.
When the Cold War began, he saw Soviet as a mentor so he went on his side. This is how Russia and China first met. Soviet and China remained Allies until the Sino Split.
