I don't remember much about the drive to the airport. The radio was on but no one sang. Mom and I desperately wanted to talk to each other, but we couldn't think of what to say. We knew that in under a hour I will be on a plane taking me to a different country. I started thinking about all the good times I had with my mom. We were so close. I told her everything and she knew me better than anyone. I would never leave her if I had the choice. But she's having a lot of trouble with money since she had recently lost her job and our house. It was decided that'd it'd be better if I lived with my dad for a couple years. My dad. Well, I couldn't tell you anything about him if I tried. The last time I had seen him is when I was 5 and he told me he was moving. I didn't understand, all I knew was that him and mom were fighting a lot. I may as well be moving in with a complete stranger.
"I'm going to miss you", mom said snapping me out of my thoughts. I looked over seeing she had tears filling her eyes. "Mom! Don't cry yet. I'm still here, aren't I?" "Yes, but not seeing you everyday will just be so...different. I'm going to be so lonely." I knew how she felt. I didn't bother thinking about living without mom because I knew I would start crying. "It's not like I'm leaving forever! I'll be back in a few months to visit! And I taught you how to use a computer, we can Skype whenever you miss me!" "Maybe I should've paid a bit more attention when you were explaining. I'll figure it out eventually!" she said chuckling. I'm glad we were talking. I'm happy to hear her laugh. It might be the last time I hear it for awhile.
After 20 minutes of sitting in a waiting room, my plane was called. This was the moment I was dreading. I stood up and jumped into my mom's arms. I felt her warm teardrops on my shoulder. She let go and grabbed onto my shoulder. "I love you", she whispered. "I love you too mom". I walked away, my suitcases in my hand. I knew she would be watching me, so I smiled and waved at her. Then I stepped onto the plane to my new life.
