*Sabre*

My ears swivel, listening for the chick. Why is a little one out here? Where's their parents?

Need to find!

Find!

Find!

Wings fluffing up, still purring. The child's cries are getting louder. My senses seem to have improved, like a lot.

Something shuffles near by, and I silently trill. Walking in the direction of the noise. I see tan, is that them?

Stepping forward I see a small kid. A little one, laying curled up against the ground, crying...

I silently step forward, tilting my head, a small chirp escapes me and the child tenses, crying even more.

I walk closer and crouch a little bit, walking closer to the chick.

Chick.

Chick..

Chick...

Poor little chick.

I coo softly setting my paw against the kids shoulder. Purrs rumbling from me, and the kid sniffles, no longer fully crying.

The little ones ears twitch before they look up at me. The kids eyes were orange, with some lighter color near the top.

"Hello." I quietly say, no spooking the chick.

The kid sits up and scrambled back in fear, but I can also see some confusion and slight hope.

"Can you speak?" I ask the chick.

The chick nods, slowly becoming less and less tense.

"That's good. Let me introduce myself," I sit on the ground to make myself smaller, "I'm Sabre. What's your name?" I keep my vice quiet.

The child steps closer, "I- I'm Avery..." Another step closer, my purring gets slightly louder and Avery tilts his head.

"Hello Avery, can you tell me where your parents are?" I ask him, watching as he looks down and sniffles.

Oh...

"Can I touch you?" I ask but instead of answering, Avery jumps forward a grasps onto me, crying once more. "Shh, Shh, It's alright... It's alright."

My wings become full size, curling around me and him. My mind trills.

Chick

Chick

Little chick

Poor poor little chick

New Flock

New Flock!

Flock!

Flock!

I coo slightly, wiping the tears from Avery's face. He had white freckles on him, he looks like a little fawn.

He's so small, so young. All alone.

"Are you okay?" Avery looks up at me.

"Yeah sorry, instincts." Seriously? Instincts? Calm down Sabre, Calm down.

"Like a bird?" Avery asks touching my wings, "Soft..." He pushes himself into my feathers.

And just like that all my instincts go haywire.
