The merriment and carefreeness brought by the holidays of December finally came to a halt : one that would last a month or two.
The spring break was just around the corner as the winter break bid its final goodbyes. Yeji walked excitedly into the gates of both hell and fun.
It was a Monday morning and she was smiling like a fool as she stared at the school building. Maybe she missed school more than she thought.
She hadn't seen Ryujin and Chaeryeong since that one girls night where they were gossiping about the Hwangs. Ryujin had gone to Venice for a family trip to spend the Christmas there whereas Chaeryeong went to Munich. Both of them only came back right before the day the school started.
Given how she spent the winter and Christmas,Yeji was low-key glad she rejected Ryujin's offer to go to Venice with her. Main reason she had refused was that she wouldnt be able to celebrate the Christmas with her mom if she went since her mother's profession as a nurse didn't spare her much time to travel.
"Ryujin!" Yeji yelled as she ran with her arms open.
"Oh girl... I missed you loads." Ryujin hugged her even tighter while still holding on to the shopping bag she brought. "I bought souvenirs for everyone. Let's go unpack it." She wiggled the bag in front of Yeji once they broke the hug.
Inside the bag was a bunch of tiny things : handmade boats and ships, miniature Venice (a couple of them) and the one that caught Yeji's eyes the most, murano glass.
"I almost got lost trying to find where they sold that." Ryujin remarked. "That's for you."
"Really... its so pretty..." Yeji's voice faded in amazement. Ryujin smiled at her before asking Felix to pick what he liked.
He chose the detailed handmade ship which fascinated him.
"Is he not planning to come?" Ryujin asked looking at the empty spot next to her. She wanted to hand him over the remaining gifts and pass it to the kids from the tennis club.
"He said he'll be late." Yeji replied.

"Did you like it?" Ryujin hit Chan's arm curiously.
"Except the fact that it makes me look stupid, I liked it." Chan commented on the Gondolier's hat she had gifted him.
She laughed out loud as though that was the reason why she got it for him : to make him look stupid.
Ryujin then explained to the others that Bangchan came to get them at the airport that's how she ended up giving him his gift first.
Yeji excused herself to go fill her waterbottle. She was just thinking about how Hyunjin texted her that he would be late but never showed up and the thought led to one thing, that to the next thought as she filled up her water bottle.
"Yeji... " Someone called from the back before tapping lightly on her shoulder.
"Yes?" She turned to see Somi.
"Oh it's been so long since we talked. You remember how I was the one who welcomed you to this school." She giggled a little as if reminiscing the past. "Now that you are so adjusted and formed your own clique even.... you seemed to have totally no time for me." Somi whined as she tried to intertwine her arm with Yeji's. She pulled her towards the school playground.
"Sit." Somi eyed the space near her as she sat on the large stairs opposite the football field.
"They are doing warmups." Somi pointed at the boys on the field as if trying to strike a conversation with the very quiet Yeji.
