In the middle of the night Min-Sun gasped waking up to a noise at her front door. She felt the familiar anxiety wash over her but before getting up to check on it, she grabbed the bat that was beside her bed. She looked for her phone on the nightstand and picked it up swearing under her breath. Who went and knocked on someones door at 2:43 in the morning?
Min-Sun walked out of her room holding the bat high ready to swing. She made her way through the living room to her front door. She lowered the bat as she reached the door and tried to look through the peephole. There was not very much security lighting outside of her apartment so it was hard to tell who was out there other than a black shadow. She knew it was a person knocking but as to who they were it was a mystery.
She stayed silent listening to the knocking on her front door while holding her phone in her hand ready to call for help.
"Police, open up." She could hear the voice on the other side say. She backed away from the male voice raising her eyebrows. What is an officer doing here at 2 in the morning?
She brought the bat underneath her arm so she could open the door for the officer. She opened the door ever so slightly to let him have a conversation but nothing more. She then moved to hold the bat behind the door out of the officers view.
"Hello officer.." She let out politely hoping he was at the wrong house.
The male officer outside her door was now slightly obscured by shadows. She could make out the faintest outline of him. She could see his uniform and the glint of his badge when he moved ever so slightly, and she could also see the faintest smile that played at his lips.
"Good evening ma'am I have gotten some concerned calls from people calming to know you. They were saying they haven't seen you leave the house in days. I was just doing a wellness checkup." He explained coming a little closer to the crack where Min-Sun's face was. She leaned back instinctively gripping the bat a little tighter.
"At 2 in the morning sir?" Min-Sun tried to stay polite, but even she had to admit it was an odd time for this kind of wellness call.
"We received a call from a concerned individual about thirty minutes ago stating that you had not been answering your phone for the last few days and they were concerned something had happened." He kept his smile on his face and Min-Sun nodded along finding his reason more valid than she thought.
"Ah, we all got into an argument and I was just trying to avoid them as much as possible." She said sheepishly. It was dumb and she was stubborn, but she didn't want anyone else to be affected by her bad decisions. This was her way of making sure no one else was.
The officer nodded, his smile never fading from his face. "Do you mind if I come in to confirm that you are doing okay then?"
Min-Sun felt a chill run up her spine. Wellfare visits usually just want to make sure you are alive right? Why does he need to come in? She gripped the bat even tighter.
"Actually I think I would prefer if you didn't." Min-Sun spoke trying to close the door before he could say anything else. The door got caught before it could close all the way and she looked down seeing the officers foot was blocking the door from closing. She looked up to the officer and felt her fight or flight kick in watching the way his smile widened.
"It will only take a few minutes.." He took his hand and put it on the door trying to pry it open more. He managed to loosen it from Min-Sun's grip before stepping into her house. Min-Sun turned to watch as he made his way past her kitchen to her living room. Min-Sun looked down to her phone and made sure her phone had the emergency number on speed dial just in case she needed it. While typing it in she heard the officer talk.
"You guys got into an argument?" She looked up from her phone to see the officer looking around her living room. He walked around going up to different items and inspecting them.
"Yeah my friends got hurt and I...well I was to blame. They were attacked by some man in a mask." Min-Sun babbled as she watched the officer pick up a small bear statue and study it.
"Ah that must have been a lot. I'm sorry to hear that." He put down the bear statue and looked over to Min-Sun with what looked like a genuine smile. Min-Sun nodded letting her grip on the bat loosen ever so slightly. She placed her phone down to her side feeling her guard lower slightly. This was one of the calmer conversations she had had in a long while, but she just never imagined it would be with a police officer at 2 in the morning.
"Yeah it was one of the worst things that has every happened to me." She let out a shaky breath at the confession. It felt good to finally tell anyone how she was feeling about the whole situation.
"I bet that will teach not to go to the police for help again." Min-Sun looked up at the officer confused. The familiar chill mades its way up her spine and Min-Sun griped the bat tighter. She instinctively started taking a step back towards the front door.
"What did you say?" Min-Sun spoke softly praying that she heard wrong. Maybe she was just tired and was making it all up..
"You shouldn't have shared our private messages to the police Lee Min-Sun. This was just supposed to be between you and me." He began to walk towards Min-Sun who turned to run towards the front door. He caught up with her just as quick wrapping his arms around her torso causing her to lose her grip on her phone. He began to pull her back into the kitchen as she struggled against him.
"Come on now, don't think you can seriously run from me. Hmm?" He whispered in her ear and she started swinging the bat trying her best to hit him. He grabbed at her arm and shoved it against the countertop hard enough to make her instinctively drop it. She yelped in pain as his grip on her tightened.
He let go slightly at some point while dragging Min-Sun back to the living room and she tried her best to wiggle her way out, but the officer pulled her tighter before taking both her hands and pulling them behind her back. "Oh no, no Min-Sun. You and I are going to have a nice long chat." She heard clicking sounds and felt something tightening around her wrist before she realized it was handcuffs.
She then started to scream so that anyone could hopefully hear her. "Help! Please! Somebody help me plea-" her pleas were cut off by something being stuck in her mouth. Her gaze lifted up to the officer in front of her and the smile that stayed on his face was now wiped off. She started to scream around the gag trying to get any sound out that would help her.
"God you are a fucking pain....now we have to move to a new location entirely. Have a nice rest Min-Sun it might be the only one you get for a while." He pulled out a cloth and held it to Min-Sun's face. She tried her hardest to fight against his hand but took a breath in and started feeling sleepy and then soon the world turned dark.
