It was already quite late when everyone started leaving.
Chiara was staying at a hotel while Giulia had been welcomed to the Hanyu household with open arms and was staying at Yuzuru's parent's house.
As lovely as the night was, Yuzuru was shivering with excitement when he was finally allowed to be alone with his girl.
Maya had just closed the door after hugging her mother as tightly as before, with the promise that the older woman would have lunch with her the next day.
When the door finally shut, Maya's eyes were instantly on him.
"Yuzu." she said softly, making his focus gather completely on her.
"Yes, my love?"
"Thank you. Tonight was everything I could've wished for."
"So you're not mad I organized a party?"
"My mom was here, so you didn't break the promise."
"Yeah, I figured you would be ok with it given the situation."
"I barely remember having such a nice birthday."
"Let's hope every year is better now."
"It's hard to top today."
"The night hasn't ended just yet."
Maya gave him one of those beautiful smiles he loved so much and looked at him curiously.
"What are you planning, Hanyu-san?"
"You will see, Yamamoto-san. I want us to go somewhere, is that ok?"
"The bed is comfortable... do we really have to go out?"
"Indulge me just this once, please."
"You promise we can go back to that bed idea later?"
"Absolutely." he answered with a sly smirk. "I wouldn't leave you waiting, my beautiful girl."
They walked hand in hand through the streets of Sendai.
Maya quickly realized that she had never been to these streets when it was dark outside. The only time she left the house at night was to see Yuzu practice.
Hell, she had barely even explored the city by herself. All she knew of Sendai were the small things she would need to survive and not much more.
She had to admit that this nice stroll, holding Yuzuru's hand while feeling the night breeze of spring hit her face seemed to be the perfect way to close this amazing night.
Looking at the man by her side, it was hard to believe just how handsome he looked.
Maya had noted his outfit on that day. It was clear that he had put some care into it.
Contrasting with his usual sporty looks, Yuzuru looked like the epitome of "Sexy grown-up" in the black trousers and white shirt he had chosen for that day. The rolled-up sleeves made his already sexy look in her eyes look even hotter as the glimpse of his strong arms peaked through.
They stopped at a garden that was dimly illuminated and sat on a bench.
She noticed when he wordlessly stared at the sky that was full of stars that evening.
If there was something that Tokyo could never beat it would be the night sky of the quieter cities.
With his arm wrapped around her shoulders, Maya found herself relaxing against his body and looking at the same thing he was.
"You don't believe in destiny, do you?" Yuzuru eventually broke the silence to ask.
"You know me... We've had this conversation before."
"Yeah... you must find me completely crazy."
"I love you, silly. I won't always agree with your thoughts but that doesn't mean I will judge you for them."
"You won't find me silly if I say that we were meant to find each other?"
Maya looked at his serious face and smiled. Yuzuru had this habit of overthinking things but she had to admit that when it came to them and their relationship, nothing ever seemed to make sense to her pragmatic brain.
"It's very hard for me to explain us."
"Is it?"
"As much as I try to make it make sense, some random coincidences keep happening and making me think that maybe there are things that not even science can explain."
Yuzuru seemed satisfied with her answer. The soft smile on his face told her as much.
"If I can make you believe that, then I'm not as crazy as I sometimes think I am."
"What's this about, Yuzu? You are in very deep thought."
"I've been thinking about us a lot."
"I can see that."
"Sometimes it scares me."
"What?"
"My strong feelings."
"You wear your heart for everyone to see."
"I'm obvious, I know."
"It's very endearing to me... how transparent you can be."
Yuzuru smiled once again and finally looked at her face for the first time since they settled on that bench.
"You won't be mad if I ask something crazy?"
Maya seemed to analyze him for a bit, as if trying to gather what the hell was on his mind, but coming to no possible answer.
"I would say I'm quite used to your craziness."
He took the little box from his pocket and opened it for her.
Maya gasped a little bit, even if their conversations had been a warning, she hadn't expected him to go for it.
"I know we've spoken about this but it was always in a joking manner. There is something about you that makes me so certain of the craziest of things. We had barely met and I was seemingly sure that you were my future. It's mad crazy but there are no doubts that I want this, I want you to be my wife and have you close every single day. I want to wake up by your side and make you the happiest woman in the world with the smallest of things. I want to be the one you complain to whenever things go wrong at work. I want to be there for all the good and bad moments in your life."
"Yuzu..."
She had tears in her eyes, something that no one was able to achieve but him.
"And even if this is the craziest I have ever been, I want to know if you will do me the honor and pleasure of sharing the rest of your life with me, as my wife."
"You're crazy." she muttered as he cleaned the tears dropping on her cheek.
"I know it's a lot, you don't have to give me an answer."
"Haven't I made it clear already, Hanyu-san? I told you before and I will tell you now. Yuzuru, my dear Yuzu, if you're crazy then it seems like I'm even crazier because there is no way I could ever say no to you."
His smile was one of the brightest she had ever seen.
"Is that a yes?"
"To be quite fair, you were very indirect and didn't really ask a question..."
"Maya..."
"But I will give you a break because it was a very beautiful speech... So...Yes, I'm crazy enough to marry you."
