7 Minutes In Heaven - Kai

(So, this is my first attempt at a SMIH one-shot. I'm not sure if I'll do others yet. This one is kind of a test run.)

"Kai, I'm not sure this is a good idea."

"Nonsense, it'll be fun," Kai says. You sigh. Kai's like a brother to you, but he can be such a moron sometimes! The last thing you need right now is to be stuck in the same room as the ninja—one of whom is your crush—and Nya.

"Seven Minutes in Heaven—fun?" you repeat incredulously. "What's gotten into you?"

"You're such a spoilsport, y/n," Kai says. "You're worse than Cole!"

"I still don't like it," you mutter.

Kai laughs and heads into the living room, "I got her to come!" You sigh and follow him through the door.

"Oh, look who's finally here," Nya says sarcastically.

"Look who's been waiting for us to arrive," you shoot back.

Cole sighs. "Can you two get along for once?"

"Look who's talking," Lloyd laughs.

Jay rolls his eyes. "Hey, we apologized to each other and we get along great now! Right, Cole?"

"Can we please just start the game?" Zane asks. "I am very excited to see the outcome."

"My thoughts exactly," Kai agrees. "Y/n, you're going first. Just wait in the closet while we figure out who's going in with you."

You sigh and walk toward the closet in defeat. You'll just have to hope that you get someone you can stand. You hear a few muffled snickers as you step into the closet and close the door behind you.

A few minutes pass. You hear muffled talking, excited shouting, and then the door opens and someone steps into the closet.

"Hey, y/n," Kai's voice says. "Long time, no see."

You laugh, "Leave the joking to Jay, Kai." The closet is fairly dim, but not completely dark, so you can make out the teasing grin on Kai's face. There's enough room for both of you to stand comfortably with about a foot of space between you.

"I should warn you, those guys want some action," Kai says after a minute.

You punch his shoulder. "That would be like kissing my brother, Kai. Don't be gross."

"Good, because I don't really want to kiss you, either," Kai says.

"Just so we've got that out of the way."

"Good."

There's another short silence, and then you and Kai hear muffled whispering and giggling from outside the closet.

'Do you think he's asked her yet?"

"Quiet, they'll hear!"

Kai smacks the door with the palm of his hand. "We can hear you guys! Go away!"

There's a chorus of groans from outside, and then silence.

"Why don't you get along with Nya?" Kai asks after a minute. "I can't have the two second best girls in my life constantly sniping at each other."

"Who's the best? Skylar?" you tease.

"We're not talking about this," Kai mumbles.

"I knew it! You've got a crush on her!"

"I said we're not talking about this!" Kai repeats. Even in the darkness of the closet, it's obvious that he's blushing.

You can't help but giggle. "Dude, you should totally ask her out. She's got the hots for you too, you know."

"Enough already!" Kai yelps. "We were talking about you and Nya. Why can't you two get along?"

"I'll answer the question if you agree to ask Skylar out."

Kai mumbles something under his breath.

You cup a hand to your ear. "I'm sorry, what was that?"

"I said, all right, already! Now answer the question!"

You fold your arms and shift your weight uncomfortably. "Because I'm tired of her leading Jay and Cole on, that's why."

"Do I detect a hint of jealousy?" Kai asks in his best Sensei Wu voice.

"No."

"Yeah, you're right. That was a whole lot more than just a hint of jealousy. Which one's the lucky guy?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," you say. You feel your cheeks start to heat up and try to think of a way to change the subject.

Kai snorts. "Uh-huh. Come on, y/n, you said yourself that I'm practically your brother. You can trust me. Spill!"

You sigh. "Okay. Do you promise to never repeat what I'm about to tell you outside of this closet?"

Kai nods. "I promise."

"On penalty of having to eat Cole's chili?"

"On penalty of having to eat Cole's chili."

You take a deep breath. "Okay, the reason I don't like Nya is because Jay's hung up on her since before I met you guys, and if she'd just hurry up and choose Cole already, I might actually have a chance with him."

Kai is silent for a minute. "So it's Jay you like. I should have guessed."

"I mean it, Kai, if you tell anyone I said that—" you're cut off as the door swings open, filling the closet with light.

"So, did you get it?" Jay asks.

Kai grins. "Success! I promised never to repeat it, though, so you'll have to wait for me to make copies of the recording and hide them in safe places."

"You recorded that?" You ask, cheeks flaming red.

Kai nods smugly and holds up a tape recorder. "Uh-huh."

"The whole thing?"

"Uh-huh."

"You set me up!" you accuse angrily.

"Not just me," Kai says with a grin.

"Everyone was in on it!" Lloyd laughs.

You sigh. "Okay, two things. First of all, this-" you lean over and kiss Jay on the cheek "-and second of all, I'm going to kill you, Kai!"

Kai sprints away, with you right on his heels. Behind you, you hear Jay shouting, "Did you see that? She likes me!"

(Not what you guys were expecting, was it? I wish I could have seen your faces when you realized Kai wasn't actually y/n's crush! Anyway, let me know if you want more SMIH oneshots.
