B/f/n grunted as she hit the ground, rocks and twigs digging into her skin.
"Again," Cole ordered. "You're holding back, b/f/n."
B/f/n snorted and pulled herself to her feet. She knew Cole was goading her, but it still worked. It fanned the spark of frustration and anger inside of her, giving her something to focus on.
She squared up against Lloyd--or rather, his duplicate--and raised her fists.

B/f/n groaned quietly as she hoisted herself through her bedroom window. The ninja (as she thought of them) had pushed her hard during training that day. Her hair was a mess, her clothes were torn and smudged with dirt, and she knew she would be covered in bruises in the morning.
"B/f/n! Y/n is here!"
B/f/n winced as she heard her mom's voice from downstairs. "Just a minute!" she called back, slamming the window shut and kicking the weapons Cole had given her under her bed. She was frantically finger-combing her hair to get rid of the worst of the tangles when a knock sounded from her bedroom door.
A moment later, the door opened and y/n walked in. "Ouch, b/f/n. Are you okay?"
B/f/n tensed, remembering that she had cuts and scratches all over her arms and face. At least the bruises weren't showing yet. That would have taken some explaining.
"Yeah, I'm fine," b/f/n replied quickly. "I just, uh, tripped and fell into a rosebush on the way home from school today."
"Ow," y/n winced sympathetically. "Want me to get you some Band-Aids?" She crouched and reached for the first aid kit b/f/n kept under her bed.
"No!" b/f/n said quickly. "I'll do it later. Really, they don't even hurt anymore."
Y/n hesitated, her hand perilously close to the weapons b/f/n had hidden. "Are you sure you're okay? You've been acting kind of distant lately."
For a moment, b/f/n felt the urge to tell y/n everything. She wanted to break down crying and pour out the whole story, about Lloyd Garmadon and the evil ninja and how much she missed her. Then common sense reappeared. Telling y/n the truth probably wouldn't change anything. After all, she'd already basically abandoned b/f/n in favor of her boyfriend.
B/f/n realized that y/n was still waiting for her answer. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's just that we don't get to see each other that much since your dad switched you over to homeschooling."
Y/n laughed. "Well, that'll be over in a few weeks, and then we'll get to hang out again, just like old times."
"Yeah," B/f/n mumbled bitterly. "Just like old times."

B/f/n took a deep breath and focused. Becoming invisible was getting easier for her, but it still took a lot of concentration. The first time she had done it successfully, she'd collapsed from exhaustion, and Cole had been forced to carry her home. Since then, she'd improved drastically, but b/f/n still couldn't remain invisible for more than a few minutes without wearing herself out.
Jay muttered something about a waste of time under his breath. B/f/n's eyes narrowed, even though she knew he couldn't see her. She'd show him a waste of time.
As quietly as possible, b/f/n rose to her feet and walked over to Jay. Then, using a move she'd practiced dozens of times, she grabbed his arm and threw him over her shoulder, pinning him to the ground. Jay's startled yelp was quickly drowned out by the sound of laughter from the other ninja.
B/f/n let herself fade back into visibility and looked around at the people who had become the closest thing she had to friends. "How did I do?"
Cole held her gaze. "It's time. Are you ready?"
B/f/n nodded. "I'm ready."
