The Origin of the Evil Ninja

(Warning: My headcanon/explanation. Please do not judge.)

I've called other people on not having an explanation for why evil ninja exist in their boyfriend scenarios (I think mostly just  chefpepe, but there might have been others), so it's only fair that I provide one now that I'm stealing the plot device. Anyone else who's used the evil ninja as characters is welcome to borrow this explanation, by the way.

My explanation is that the Overlord created them.

The Overlord (who had been monitoring and subtly influencing events in Ninjago) saw Four-armadon's attempt to destroy the ninja with evil doubles and decided to steal the idea. So, later, when the Stone Army was mining Dark Matter for the Ultimate Weapon, the Overlord "borrowed" some of it and used it to create new evil duplicates of the ninja, including Lloyd. He left them in some kind of inert or hibernation state so they couldn't go anywhere until he wanted to use them. They were the Overlord's backup plan in case Lloyd managed to defeat his father.

As it turned out, the new evil ninja weren't necessary for the Overlord's plot to succeed, so they were left behind on the Dark Island. They stayed there until someone (yes, so dramatic) found them, awakened them, and ordered them to destroy the ninja. And we all know what happened next...
