Fern took a deep breath.
"Are you sure you're ready for this?" Moon asked.
"Yes." The grey she-cat nodded, gazing at the large Thunderpath that lay in front of them. "Yes. I'm ready to know the truth about myself. Where I belong."

"Good." Moon purred. "Then let's go across when I say so." They stood in silence for a few heartbeats, monsters roaring past, before the black and white cat yelled. "Go!"

Fern launched herself onto the cold, hard surface, heart pounding. She heard a roar and froze.
"Don't stop!" Moon yowled too late. The monster was screaming towards her.

-----

"This isn't the place you're looking for." The strange black and white cat meowed.
"Then where are we?" Moon questioned. They had managed to get out of the monster without being seen, but now the were standing beside a tiny shack beside the house.
The black and white cat was a male, and a very fluffy one too. Beside him stood a black tom with white and silver specks.

"This is my home. Mine and Bob's."
"I know that." Fern hissed. "But I need to get home!"
"Don't worry. You're very close." The fluffy tom purred, yellow eyes flashing. "I'm Max, by the way. You?"
"I'm Moon." Moon dipped her head.
"And I'm Fern, the cat who want's to go."
"The place you're looking for is very close. I came from there. My mother's  name is Lily, and my father is Boots."

"I came from there too! I know Lily. She was kind, but she could get moody. I'm Snowshoe's daughter, and I think Fern might be too."

"Okay. Just go across the highway, and there's a gravel road. You'll meet a cat named Flora close to to where you're trying to go, and she will show you where to go from there."
"Okay, thanks! We will get going right away." Fern meowed.

-----

Moon stopped, turned around, leapt forward. She grabbed the frozen young cat by the scruff and launched her to the other side. But she was too late. The car's big black wheels drove right over Fern.
Moon gasped, and it all went black as the car right behind the first loomed over her.
