the laws that governed the siren kind had been harsh and unforgiving ever since they were introduced by the humans, suppressing the very nature of their being. 

the songs that were their birthright, songs that were meant to be an expression of their essence, were now shackled by legislation that has deemed them dangerous, manipulative, and cruel.

their ability to swim in open water had been stolen from them, being told that they would be executed if they were ever caught near a large enough body of water.

hyunjin, like all sirens, was cast into a forced silence, to stifle the very core of his being in the face of strict societal norms. 

he longed to be any other creature, to roam the world freely, to express himself without fear of retribution. the world he inhabited, while teeming with enchantment, remained a place of captivity for his kind.

his heart ached with the knowledge that he must hide his true self, his siren's call, a gift and a curse that he never chose, but one that defines his existence. 

hyunjin's life had been a melancholic symphony of longing, a song of the depths that yearned to be sung, yet is forever silenced by the harsh reality of the world he inhabited.

all because of the life his grandparent's chose.
