It was after the New Year's Jordan and I went out and celebrated while Marlene, the wonderful grandma that she is, kept Avery for us that night.
I had been feeling really tired and worn down. Jordan thought it was because of stress with Avery getting his shots and the Holidays.
Except it's not getting better. I sleep later, fall asleep on the couch, and just feel run down. I am looking to see what time my appointment is tomorrow to get checked out and see an appointment I missed on the calendar over two months ago.
We have a huge twelve-month calendar with all the months on it in our kitchen so that we can keep up with appointments and such for us and Avery.
I had an appointment for my birth control shot, and we all got sick. We turned the phones off and just slept for five days.
I forgot about it, and holy crap, please tell me I'm not. Avery is almost a year old I; we had planned to wait longer.
"Um, Jordan, can you come here for a minute?" I ask, almost in tears.
He comes into the kitchen and sees me, "Baby, what's wrong?" He walks over and wraps his arms around me.
"I screwed up, I screwed up, bad."
"How, sweetheart? I am so confused. Baby, tell me, what's going on?"
"Do you remember when we were all sick and cut our phones off to just rest and get better?"
"Yeah, that was a very rough week; all three of us had the flu."
"Well, that same week, I had something scheduled, and I missed it. I didn't realize it until now, and Jordan, I think we um, well."
"Calm down, Sam. Whatever you missed, we can take care of it. It's not a big deal, babe. It can't be a bill because we still have our utilities. We will be okay."
"Jordan, we might be pregnant again. I missed my birth control shot and never rescheduled it. That was over two months ago."
Jordan stopped and looked shocked for a moment. "Um, okay, well, it's fine either way, babe. If you're pregnant, then great, we will have another baby sooner than we planned, and if not, then we will use protection until it's safe again. We still have tests from Avery. Would they, um, still be good?"
"So, you're not mad?"
"No, why would I be mad? It was a mistake; it's not like you did it on purpose. Before you get upset, let's take the test and find out. You have been really tired for the last few weeks, like you were with Avery. Let's go upstairs and find out."
He took her hand, picked Avery up off the floor, and they went upstairs. He grabbed the tests from the cabinet while she held Avery. He looked at the dates they were still good for another few months. He handed her a cup and two tests. He kissed her and took Avery from her.
She went into the bathroom and took a deep breath. She peed in the cup she, dipped the tests in there, then threw the cup away and washed her hands. She sat down beside him, and he wrapped his arm around her.
When the timer went off, they walked over together and looked at the test. It was positive, and he hugged her.
"Look at me, baby girl. No matter what, this baby might have been unplanned, but it was still conceived from love. We planned on two kids, and now we will have our two kids."
"So, you're not mad that we are pregnant? Yes, it was conceived from love, our love. I'm pregnant again."
"No way, sweetheart, I am actually really happy. We are going to have another baby. Now, we need to schedule you an appointment to find out how far along you are. Since you haven't had morning sickness, maybe this pregnancy will be easier on you."
