2007:
Donnie had been coming by and visiting with us more frequently. He came over for dinner tonight and after we got the kids settled down and into bed. He looked at us and smiled.
"So, Jordan and Sam, I have something I want to talk to you both about. First, let me just say I am still so happy for you both. Yes, I was a little upset at first when she chose you, but she made the right decision. I can see how happy you make each other, and you have a beautiful family."
"Thanks, D, she definitely makes me happy. I am so proud and thankful for my kids. Now, what did you want to talk to us about?"
"Well, Jordan, I have been talking to the guys. Guys being Joe and Danny, and the three of us are ready if you and Jon are willing to try it again. Let's reunite the New Kids and see if our fans are still there or if they aren't interested anymore."
"Um, I don't know, Donnie. I mean, do you think people will be interested in the New Kids on the Block thirteen years later?"
"Well, that's what we have to see. I mean, the worst thing that could happen is we release an album, and it doesn't sell. I have a manager I have been talking to, and he said the way it would work is we record the album, announce a tour, and see if tickets sell. If they don't, we get our original percentage for making the album, and we go our separate ways."
"So, no loss for any of us, no money upfront, and no fines to have to pay if we don't do the tour?"
"Correct. I have a recording company interested in a reunion; they are willing to pay for the album and songs. I have been listening to songs for a couple of months, but Jordan, you are our voice, the dancer, and the pretty face. So, without you, it's a no-go. I have already said the original five, meaning Jon. If he says no, then it's a no, period."
"Samantha, you also have a say because I already know Jordan talks to you, and you decide on everything, so you would also have to say yes. If Jordan and Jon say yes, and yet you say no, then it's a no. Just using that as an example because I know if you tell Jordan not to go, then it is going to be a no from him. So, I will let you two discuss this and then talk to Jon if you can, and I will come back in four days. How does that sound?"
"Sounds good, D. We will discuss it and let you know."
"Yeah, thanks, Donnie, for including me in this even tho I'm not in the band. Be safe getting back home. We will see Tuesday." He hugged them both and left.
Jordan looked at Sam. "So, what do you think, babe?"
"Um, I don't know. I'm still a little shocked, and my brain is trying to process what this would mean for us?"
"Okay, first, let me explain what this would mean. That way, before you say anything, you have the full details and know what to expect."
"Okay."
"So, if we reunited the band and the fans were still there, it would mean a lot of time on the road and a huge tour for the first several years. If the demand is there, it would mean even traveling overseas. It would mean more time away than I would be at home. I would need dates or the number of shows to know what they are expecting, but it would also mean more money than I am making now for my solo shows. My guess is it would be like two hundred shows or more first year."
"Two hundred shows or more, wow. That's a lot of traveling. That would be a lot of time apart. What will happen after the first few years? Like you guys can make the schedule and not tour as much."
"Pretty much, but baby, if you say yes, you can't change your mind when we announce it. So, please think about this and make sure whatever you say is what you want. We toured for six years before we broke up; one of our tours was almost three years straight, with maybe one week, three weeks, and a couple of months here and there off. In thirty-six months, we were home, maybe seven months total, if that."
