Frank Baum left us a personal note in this book himself about why he created Wizard of Oz below so I will start this book off with that alone only as I feel it only right the Author be able to be read with his own voice in his own writing-Lumna10.

"'Folk lore, legends, myths and fairy tales have followed childhood through the ages, for every healthy youngster has a wholesome and instinctive love for stories fantastic, marvelous and manifestly unreal. The winged fairies of Grimm and Andersen have brought more happiness to childish hearts than all other human creations.
Yet the old-time fairy tale, having served for genera-tions, may now be classed as "historical" in the children's library; for the time has come for a series of newer "won-der tales" in which the stereotyped genie, dwarf and fairy are eliminated, together with all the horrible and bloodcurdling incident devised by their authors to point a fearsome moral to each tale. Modern education includes morality; therefore the modern child seeks only entertainment in its wonder-tales and gladly dispenses with all disagreeable incident.
Having this thought in mind, the story of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" was written solely to pleasure children of today. It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heart-aches and nightmares are left out.'" -L. Frank Baum. He wrote these words in Chicago in April of 1900.

I 100% agree with him sometimes our  modern days of storytelling is way too full of darkness and distress and horror just look at the way the Marvel movies are

I 100% agree with him sometimes our  modern days of storytelling is way too full of darkness and distress and horror just look at the way the Marvel movies are. They are about such horrible stuff and I could never bring myself to watch a bunch of them. I have never seen one of the Iron Man Trilogy and have no intention of watching them ever at all period in my life and can't understand why so many like them nor how they spent so much money on them making them as dark as they are. The things in most movies immediately disgust me and I watch it unsurprised if I have to watch it at all and unmoved and unattached. I hate the action genre of movie's presentations in cinema theaters 100%-Lumna10.
