The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is after the war years so this book's setting probably somewhere in the 1950s
Eustace's parents were up to date, and advanced people.
They were vegetarians and people who did not smoke. (These were rare ideas at the time-Lumna10)
Eustace doesn't call his parents "Mother and Father." He calls them by their first names. Alberta and Harold. And what I can tell about this change in names means the parents liked to be on equal terms with their kids and it might also be that the other reason is that want their relationship to be more like best friends.Advice from Harold that's not entirely accurate or inaccurately. "'People shut their eyes to certain facts." whelp that depends on the facts.
C. S. Lewis tells us that Eustace's family is striving to be equal but chivalry is dead in the family towards girls thanks to his Alberta's advice as she believes treating girls special is actually lowering them down so really backwards point of view from the Mother of Eustace. True not good to spoil people including girls but it doesn't mean gentleman should never be gentlemanly and not offer to open doors for the ladies. C. S. Lewis lessons here with Caspian gifting Lucy his cabin on the Dawn Treader is so showing us you can be chivalrous while maintaining the strive of equality. Caspian also tells off the Captain of his ship that he would not move to the upper cabins because his men in charge of the ship's heading need them more and he could manage downstairs in a bunk as the King of Narnia. The Caspian in the Narnian books is a way better Caspian role model than love sick Caspian in the Disney film. He was far more chivalrous than he was portrayed in either versions of the films both Disney films and BBC broadcasting films. So Eustace doesn't know what the heck chivalry is actually.
Eustace calls himself a British Republican of which I found only two definitions
1st definition-people who wish to completely abolish the monarchy. (this was the main answer I got from online-Lumna10)
2nd defintion-people who wish the head of state was a separate thing from the monarchy and handled affairs of public people not just the other stuff.Websites weren't clear and the only website I believe may have been accurate was documented in an Australia website. Isn't that weird? British have better American records of some American people like L. Frank Baum there is U. S. A stuff on him under further reading that is from a Uk website on Wikipedia that is an American publication, and Australian websites have better British records of some things.
Last thing about Eustace as I mentioned claims to be a Pacifist towards Reepicheep it is a flat out lie because of the first definition I found of British Republican up above and his school had no corporal punishment. (We get to see his school and what's like in The Silver Chair even Caspian gets to see a glimpse of it and the bad behavior in it-Lumna10) So Eustace is a dishonest person and because he is dishonest he is also a hypocrite unlike Edmund knew what was lying and what wasn't. Eustace had no clue he was being dishonest, because he never got to learn how bad dishonesty is. He thought it was normal behavior especially in school where students were not taught the differences between right and wrong.
His parents were tee-totallers.
Tee-totallers-people who stopped drinking alcoholic beverages.
There was hardly any furniture in his house except for beds to sleep on. His parents did not have art hanging on the walls. Lucy's is the only room that has a picture of art in it because that was a wedding gift to her Aunt. They kept their house windows were always open. There were also very few clothes kept on their beds.Positive things about Eustace
He liked animals.
Beetles were his favorite ones especially if they were dead. (It is told to us later he greatly dislikes the animals who are meant to be performing animals which I don't blame him given those days animals looked silly because of how badly cared for they might have been-Lumna10). He loved books of informations. He never read fairytales and he never had make believe stories because he never dreamed any up. Or books with pictures of grain elevators that he would also read
