You bounce your knee nervously as you sit in the waiting room of the doctor's office, between your two close friends. Your brother had work, so he couldn't take you to your appointment today. Instead, Kirishima and Bakugou both offered to take you, and you accepted.
"No matter what, everything's going to be okay." Kirishima tries to reassure you. But you're not convinced. You love soccer, and you had hoped to play it in college. But now, you're not sure if you'll ever be able to play it again. Not in school, at least.
"(Y/n)?" The nurse calls your name. You take a deep breath, getting to your feet. "Do you want us to come with you?"
Kirishima offers. You take a minute to think it over, before you reply. "Okay, sure."
After your vitals are checked, you're stuck waiting for the doctor once again. Bakugo flicks your forehead, getting your attention. "Oi, idiot. Get out of that big head of yours."
"I can't help it." You murmur, rolling your eyes at him. "Yeah, she can't help it Bakugo. She's nervous for a perfectly good reason. She's allowed to feel however she wants."
Bakugo frowns in response, before turning back to face you. "You just wanna mope around and drive yourself crazy, huh? Is that what you wanna do?"
His hands wander over to your waist, and you give him a skeptical look, your face warming up. "What're you doing? The doctor could come in any second. Now's not the time-"
"Then stop me." He challenges you with a playful grin, as his hands ghost over your waist, and he starts tickling you. You fight his hands away, irritated at first, but as he reaches your more sensitive areas, you're squirming and squealing and giggling.
"Stop it, you asshole! Knock it off!" You try to fight him off but he's too strong, and you're leaning into him. "Make me."
You're too distracted with him to hear a knock at the door, or Kirishima trying to get your attention. So when the door opens, Bakugo pulls away from you so fast that you almost full over. His face is red and you can't help but find how easily flustered he is amusing, even if you're a little embarrassed yourself.
"How are you feeling, Ms.(y/n)?" You stroke a hair behind your ear, clearing your throat and smiling nervously. "I'm good."
"That's good. I have your report right here from your MRI...and it seems I have some unfortunate news."
It's just what you feared. A torn ACL and Meniscus. The tear is so bad that you need surgery to repair it, and that means you can't play soccer. Not for the next seven to nine months at least.
You cry when you find out. You sit there and you cry and cry, and Bakugo holds your hand, and Kirishima rubs your back, letting you lean into him.
The two help you leave the doctor's office, and the two boys watch as you buckle yourself into the back seat, a devastated look on your face. They exchange looks, before Kirishima speaks up. "Why don't we get ice cream or something?"
You sniffle slightly and nod. They start the car, asking you where you want to go.
"Is it okay if you just grab me some ice cream to go? I don't think I want to eat out anywhere. Just eat ice cream and watch a movie or something."
"Okay. Do you want to be alone?" Kirishima asks, causing you to hesitate. "No..I think I'll just feel worse by myself."
You're devastated, for good reason too. Soccer has always been a big passion throughout your life. It's something you had, like it or not. It gets you out of bed in the morning, is a getaway when you're angry and depressed, and it's a place where you can just be yourself. In all the self doubt, it's one of the few things you feel confident about. One of the few things you feel like you're good at.
You sit between Kirishima and Bakugo on the couch, watching your favorite movie quietly. Normally, you're gushing about it and everything you love, but now you're just quiet, and sad.
The two boys looked at each other, staring and wondering who would be first to speak. Surprisingly, it's Bakugo, even though Kirishima is better with emotions.
But Bakugo understand better than most would. Like you, his motivation has come from success and achievement in his sports and academics. Especially his sports. He understands your drive and ambition, and he understands why this is so heartbreaking for you. So he knows just what to say.
"(Y/n)." He starts softly, causing you to look over at him. He rests a hand on your knee, fidgeting and staring at your legs as he starts to speak.
"I know this sucks, and I'm sorry. And I know you want to forget about it and focus on the movie, but I just have to say this. Once you get everything fixed with your knee and everything, you're going to get surgery, and then you're going to work your ass off in physical therapy, and then you'll be back, and better than ever. I promise. Hey, at least you can forget about those stupid high school bitches. You'll be playing in the adult league, and who knows maybe you'll even make it to the pros. I'm proud of you, dummy. And Kirishima and I are going to help you through this."
You smile softly, holding back your tears. They're not sad tears, though. That's the nicest thing Bakugo has ever said to you.
You hug him, hard. "Thank you, Bakugo. That means a lot. I love you."
He hugs you back just as tight, and presses a small kiss to your temple. "There's nothing to thank me for. I'm just telling the truth...and I love you too. And you can just call me Katsuki, when it's just the three of us like this."
Before your conversation can continue, the living room light turns on, getting your attention. You look over your shoulder to find your brother, and he isn't happy.
