27th Chapter: Thoughts and Prayers

(August 2024 - Another month later)

The school bell rings, everyone beginning to make their way down the long hallway, it being flowers pictures and bears on Max's locker, as well as hearts around the locker with notes on the hearts, all of the hearts being red.

Jane sits down in the Principal's chair, her being in her cheerleading uniform attire, her bringing the loudspeaker closer to her mouth. "Good morning Tigers, it's August 20th, 2024, senior year for most of us." She says in a solemn tone.

Will stands in front of Max's locker while tears are in his eyes, Dustin and Mike going to stand besides him and put both of their hands on his shoulders, Will slowly closing his eyes as tears leave him.

"As you all know...." Jane trails off a little, her swallowing more. "My great friend Max is still in coma and...recently she went into arrest and they had to put her in another surgery...."

Max lays in the hospital bed with two tubes in her opened mouth, the doctor talking to them and Sam and Susan's eyes both watering as Susan leans her head on Sam's, both of them beginning to cry while the doctor puts his hand on Sam's shoulder.

"The days are getting more worse." Jane begins to cry. "Barely any responses and...it's a chance she might not...." She trails off more, her hand going over her mouth while the Principal puts a hand on Jane's shoulder, Jane releasing a loud sob into the speaker.

Everyone walks down the halls with either sorrow filled looks or apologetic gazes and saddened looks, barely any smiles being seen as students walk down the halls, pictures of Max being everywhere with notes all around, even students putting up big posters and signs on the walls of the school.

"Please, just please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Please." Jane cries, her going to get up from the chair and run out of the office, her going to the bathroom and going to sob out loudly.

Suzie wipes her eyes while she looks at the big sign her and three other girls get done making, it being of Max smiling while on her bike, her smiling softly at the other girls.

"Our thoughts and prayers are going out to Maxine Mayfield who last night went into cardiac arrest and had to endure another surgery she barely survived from." The news reporter says. "Signs are being put around all schools since they started today, as well as Town Hall and all around the city as everyone hopes that Maxine makes a miraculous recovery. Our thoughts and prayers also go out for Samuel and Susan Mayfield as they endure this tragic situation."

Nancy sits on the couch while she wipes her eyes, Jonathan going to sit next to her and her leaning on his chest while she cries.

Robin and Vicki stand at work together while they look at the news, Robin roughly throwing a magazine to a wall while Vicki slowly closes her eyes, tears falling down her eyes.

"We shouldn't have left." Cassidy shakes her head while she looks at the TV.

"Max would want us to still keep Redness and Black running here. We have to keep fulfilling her legacy, no matter what happens." Romano says with tears in his eyes.

They both look towards Hillard, seeing how he stands there looking at the TV with tears in his eyes, them going over to him and going to hug him.

Steve looks at the TV while he stands at work, him going to slowly run a hand through his hair in stress, him smiling politely at the customer that comes in front of him, him beginning to help her.

"Lucas Sinclair is on the run and still has yet to be found despite police's best efforts to find him. However, we are seeing in multiple states how more of the Eat the Rich tribes are found with evidence in the locations that police are getting tips from. With every place that has been searched and more of these ones with the tribe taken into custody...there is always a light blue X eye mask found hanged on the wall, revealing that it is actually X-Eye or Lucas Sinclair helping the police to these locations."
