The war wage on. The ally sects fought hard and they gained more ground but Wen Rouhan pushed back. And each battle became harder and more draining. But they did not withered nor did they give up. Lan Zhan and Caihong were formidable on the front lines. They moved as one. The one always protected the other. Jin Zixuan did not slack. He gave a thousand percent himself. The jiangs had finally stopped nagging about taking back lotus pier.
While taking a rare but well deserved rest even if it's just for a while before they reconvene for another meeting on what to do next. Caihong went to her tent. Stepping inside she sighs and went straight to her bed. Her body is tired. No that's a lie. She is physically and mentally tired. She put her sword and dizi within arms reached before she lays down and close her eyes. Not long she was fast asleep. Hua Cheng appears before her bed and kneel down.
"You have grown so much and so strong. I am proud of how you have handled yourself so far and I am even more proud of you on how you handled the Jiangs". Anger seeps through his voice at the last part.
"But that's not why I am here. I will meet you soon. The final battle that's where we will meet. But I brought you valuable information my little ghost. I have been working with someone else to ensure that no unexpected surprises or casualties happen before Nightless City. Be safe my little ghost. I have to go". He place a soft peck on her forehead that made her swap at her face and smiles before he stood up and gave her one last look. He place a white envelope on top of her sword. He threw his dice and disappeared.
Two hours later Lan Zhan came to get her. After calling her name out for a while he opened the flap of the tent and stepped inside. The light was dim inside after he let the flap fall back in place. He walked over to where her bed was and kneel down. Calling her name softly for several minutes and shaking her lightly that earns a frustrated groan. Not giving up he shaking and calling her name urging her to open her eyes and get up.
"Ah Lan Zhan why so cruel. Let me sleep just a little bit more please". She said sleepily when she finally cracked her eyes open.
"I can't. We have a meeting in ten minutes. Stand up I'll wait for you in front". He said as he stood up and stretched his hand for her to take. Begrudgingly she took it and he pulled her up gently. Once she was standing and smoothing out her robes Lan Zhan gave her a small smile and nod and made his way outside the tent. Waiting just by the opening. She stretched herself out and felt the pull on her back. The only physical reminder left of what she once had to endure. The scars on her back.
She shook her head lightly telling herself this is not the time. Trying to get her hair into some sort of decent ponytail which of course she failed and gave up half way. She just put it in a half bun. Much easier. She don't understand why Hua-ge did not give her smoother hair also without the knots and the struggle. Letting her hands fall to her side she walked back towards her bed to get her sword and dizi. Just as she was about to pick it up she saw the envelope. Confuse she tried to figure out if it was there before she went to sleep or not. Lan Zhan calls to her and she picked up her sword and dizi and also the envelope. Walking towards the entrance of the tent which Lan Zhan held open for her.
Walking outside the light blinded her for a second and she had to bring up her hand to cover it. They waited a little for her eyes to get used to the light and once it did she looked down at the envelope in her hand. Lan Zhan's eyes follows hers, as they starts walking and he asked.
"What is it?".
"I haven't opened it so I don't know what's inside. But I am not getting anything or feeling of maliciousness from it". She answered. She knows that she had a few enemies but would they try to hurt her when they are fighting a war. She did not see the butterfly seal on the back of the envelope yet. If she turns it she would and know from who it is.
