Chapter 26

The first six months of Wei Ying's pregnancy were a very stressful one for both expecting parents. Wei Ying, who are not used to staying, still had an especially hard time. She knows that's it is for the best and also for the good of the baby and herself after they get that scare, but she still finds it hard. It frustrated her, and at times, she felt angry, and it's during those times that Lan Zhan would take out wangji and play their song to soothe her and keep her calm.
He would also play cleansing from time to time to regulate her two energies.

Lan Qiren and Lan Xichen would also take the time to come and sit with her. Talking about anything and everything. They always tried  to keep the mood light and happy, which she appreciated very much. As time passed, Wen Qing and the head Lan healer were very pleased with Wei Ying's progress and the growth of the baby and they told her that much and it eases both her and Lan Zhan's minds and heart.

On her seventh month, the two healers told them that Lan Zhan could start taking her on short walks . Wei Ying was very excited as she kept still so that Lan Zhan could dress her a big smile on her face. As they exited the jingshi, Lan Zhan had a protective hand on Wei Ying's back as her hands lay protectively on her pregnant belly. He held her elbow with his other hand as they walked slowly towards the bunny field. Their first visit since they came back from koi tower.

The moment Wei Ying had stepped outside the jingshi. She took deep breaths of fresh air into her lungs, and now, as Lan Zhan lowered her slowly and carefully onto the patch of grass, she did it again and sighed in content as Lan Zhan made sure that she was sitting comfortably before he himself lowered him and sat next to her. They, for a moment, sat in absolute silence, taking in the beauty that surrounded them and watching as the bunnies slowly started to make their way over to them.

When the bunnies finally reached them, they sniffed them, and the two sat quietly and still. Lan Zhan and Wei Ying smiled at their babies before he slipped his hand into his sleeve and took out some small carrots. He silently handed some to Wei Ying, and she took it. They  started to fed them in that same serene silence. Wei Ying's one hand lovingly caressing her pregnant belly while feeding the bunnies with the other.

Once they were done feeding them, they both were holding a bunny in their arms and caress their fur softly. Wei Ying could feel that their is something that is weighing heavily on her husband's mind, but she choses to keep quiet and give him the time to gather his thoughts and tell her in his own time. Lan Zhan sighs softly as he absent mindly caresses the bunny in his hands. Finally, he turns his attention towards his wife after placing the bunny gently on the grass, and it starts to hop away, joining the others.

"Wei Ying ."

Lan Zhan finally said softly, and she turned her head towards him. Upon seeing the serious look on his face, she placed the bunny that she had been holding down and gave her full attention to her husband. He took both her hands in his before he spoke again.

"Wei Ying, the other sects had offered me the position of chief cultivator."

He told her, and her eyes went wide as shock and suprise overcame her face. She could just look at her husband for what felt like hours, but it was only a few seconds. Lan Zhan looked at her, knowing that she must be worried that he would take the position that would take him away from his family often, and he could not do that.

"But why?. Why you Lan Zhan?. There must be someone else who could take the position. What did you say Lan Zhan?. Do not get me wrong, it is not that I do not think for a minute that you are not capable. You would do a great job, but we just started our family, and we finally have the time to be a family, and you would be away most of the time. Away from me. Away from us. Lan Zhan, forgive me if I am selfish, but I do not want you to take the position. I want you here with us always."

She spoke as tears welled up in her eyes, and her lower lip started to wobble, and her body started to shake slightly. Lan Zhan took his hand away from hers and placed it on her belly. He hates seeing her sad and close to tears. He looked into her eyes and smiled softly and lovingly at her.

"Wei Ying, I said no. I will not be able to be far away from the both of you. Brother told them that he is willing to take the position. They all agreed. I would never have taken it Wei Ying. You and our baby are  more important to me than being the chief cultivator. "

He told his wife as tears streamed down her face. He brought her close and hugged her side ways softly, caressing her back.

"I am sorry, Lan Zhan, for being selfish."

She said, and Lan Zhan said.

"You are not Wei Ying. You have the right to feel the way you do and the right to say how you feel."

He assured her as he kissed the top of her head.

"Wei Ying?. You know that I will have to take over the sect now that brother will be chief cultivator right?."

Lan Zhan could not help but say and Wei Ying let out a wet chuckle as Lan Zhan wiped away her tears and Lan Zhan smiles as he looked at his wife.

"Ah Lan Zhan I can't win it seems. But I knew it and quite frankly I do not mind as long as you are never far."

She said with a big smile and Lan Zhan nodded his head. They sat in silence for some time watching the bunnies before Wei Ying spoke.

"Lan Zhan we need to think of a name for our little radish. So what name do you think we should give him?."

She asked her husband as she looked at him with a questioning look on her face. Lan Zhan held her gaze for a second before he laid his hand lovingly on her pregnant belly and smiles softly. He was quiet for a while just rubbing her belly before he lift his head and look at his wife.

"A-Yuan. His name. What does Wei Ying think?."

Lan Zhan said and asked a little uncertain but Wei Ying brought her hand up and cup his cheek before she smiles and said.

"I like it Lan Zhan. I guess you already have his courtesy picked out already too."

Lan Zhan smiles and nodded his head before he spoke.

"Sizhui."

Wei Yings eyes went wide for a minute as Lan Zhan looked at her nervously. A big smile came across her face before she spoke.

"Sizhui.  To yearn for. Lan Zhan I love it both of them."

She said as tears wells up in her eyes and Lan Zhan pulled her into a side hug and kiss her head.

"I am glad that Wei Ying loves the names. I was worried that Wei Ying would not like them."

He said honestly in a soft voice.

"Lan Zhan how could you think that. I would have love any name you would've came up with."

Wei Ying said and Lan Zhan hugged a little closer as tears shines in his eyes. Lan Zhan let go after a while and stood up and then carefully he helped his wife up and they slowly made their way out of the bunny field.

"Would Wei Ying like to take a walk down the mountain."

Lan Zhan asked her and she nodded her head. He took her hand in his and they walked into the direction where the stairs were. Wei Ying would not lie. She never thought that some day she would experience such a great love and caring man. It cost her almost to loose her life to realise the amount of love this man walking next to her held in his heart for her and now their little family is almost complete. Soon they will welcome their little radish into the world and her heart were bursting with love and gratefulness for this man. She caressed her belly as they slowly walked making their way to Caiyi Town.
