My father and I waited until everyone was out of the house, and it was just me, father and Alexander. My father rested one hand on my shoulder, the other behind his back.
"You know what to do, Marina" my father whispered. He used both of his hands to cup my cheeks, and so I placed my own hand over his. I was struck with the smell of expensive cologne, indicating Alexander was right behind me. Without realising, I let a tear fall.
"Don't cry, Marina. You'll look weak" my father said, seriously.
"I'll visit as often as I can, Marina" Alexander mumbled.
"Could I please take a moment to speak with Marina, Kaz?" Alexander asked l, bluntly.
My father took one last glance at me, before returning to the grand Hall for a cigar.
"Your father wants to make sure you understand your job, but I want to make sure you understand that if anything was to go wrong, you tell me immediately" Alexander urged, as he tucked a lock of my cinnamon brown hair behind my ear, and brushed my cheek with his finger. I felt the coldness of his ring on my cheek, while feeling the softness of his finger.
"I know", I whispered.
Alexander nodded, and cupped my face with his two hands before leaning to give me a kiss on my forehead.
"Be safe", he said.
Alexander gave me a small push with one hand, to make me walk out the door. I began to walk slowly, when my father's voice was heard.
"Marina" it echoed.
I turned around half way, with my hand on the wall.
"Don't give in to the bastards" he said quietly.
I wasn't sure how to respond, I looked from him, to the floor, and back to my father.
I didn't speak any further, so I turned back around, and walked out the main entrance where I was met with my fiancé's family, and my own.
My mother hastily walked in her heels to reach me, the sound of her heels clacking on the concrete was all to be heard. The night was cold, I felt little bumps on my arms and legs, the tip of my nose was so cold it felt as though it was going to fall off at any moment. My mother reached me, and she held each of my hands in her own. I could feel the coldness of her hands even beneath her gloves, the same way my cheeks felt like blades of ice.
"Be careful, Marina" my mother whispered.
She gripped my hands even tighter, providing warmth.
"I know, mother" I whispered in return.
"I might not have shown it enough, or at all, but know that I deeply care for you" my mother muttered, so no one but us could hear.
I nodded, and without warning, my mother pulled me into a hug. It felt strange, her arms were wrapped around me yet my arms stayed by my side. A hug was something I wanted from her for years and only now when I'm about to leave, I receive it. My brothers were also in shock- whether they were envious, happy, upset, angry, we were all in shock. My mother let go of me, and stroked my cheek with her gloved hand.
Next, I was to say goodbye to my brothers. I started with Silas, my eldest brother. We weren't much different from each other- he had dark brown hair just like my self, bronze skin like the rest of my family but he had my father's features. We stared at each other for a few seconds, before we hugged each other. I tried not to get tear stains onto his shirt, but something told me he wouldn't care.
I ended up moving on to Finn, I was definitely going to miss that cheeky bastard. He ruffled my hair knowing it was going to piss me off, but I decided I was going to let it slide.
"Take care little sister" he said, after putting his hands into his pockets.
"Fuck off, Finn" I grinned.
I then walked to Dominik, who I had mixed opinions about. He had a beard and sharp features, and had clearly been working out considering his appearance from the last time I saw him.
"Behave yourself, avoid getting a marriage like mine and Camilla's, yeah?" He said awkwardly, not meeting my eye.
"Not gonna miss me?" I muttered.
"Nah".
"Expected".
I walked to Victor, who was smoking next to his wife Maria.
"I didn't know you smoked" I muttered.
"Times change" he simply said.
Victor wrapped one hand around me and pulled me close, all I smelt was cologne and tobacco. He released me, and I walked to Cassius.
We looked at each other, unsure of what to do. He reeked of alcohol and he appeared as though he was using, like everyone else. I always felt bad for Celia. He had dark circles under his eyes, a stubble and cracked lips. He didn't meet my eye.
"Fuck you", was all he said.
I never understood why he despised me so much, neither did my brothers. But still, I had a small spot for him in my heart, even if there was no room for me in his. He threw his cigarette onto the concrete driveway, and stepped on it to have it lit out.
"Fuck yourself" I said, not allowing my voice to break.
I looked at my family one more time, before Fransisco moved his head as a gesture for me to get into the car. He opened the door to the black Mercedes, and I went inside. I wasn't sure what there was to miss about my family. Even Finn and Silas hurt my feelings a lot in the past. Eventually, Fransisco sat down next to me and we began to move. I noticed 4 other cars following us, each driven by bodyguards. I turned around one last time, and we drove into the night.
