"Appa, you promised!"
"Ji-ah, I'm so sorry. I've got to attend this meeting; we've got people from overseas attending the meeting and I'm one of the only few who speaks English fluently."
Minji huffed and pouted. Even though his father spent more than adequate time than anyone else's father, she still needed their shopping trips every weekend. In the midst of putting his things inside the tote bag, he approached her and pressed a quick kiss on the crown of her head. "Minki," Namjoon cooed, using the nickname he made up for her when she was just two. "You know what to buy, right? You can buy them by yourself and keep the rest."
Minji flopped down on the couch like jelly, her face looking like someone kicked her dog and ran away. "A fragile little girl like me can't carry those bags alone."
Namjoon flicked her forehead, kissed it again and grabbed his keys from the table. "Just last week you bench pressed a bus because the terrorist called you 'a prude female'."
"Okay, yeah! What's up with these men calling girls 'female' when they call guys 'men'? Do they think women are aliens or something? They might call Black Jack a supervillain but at least he respects everyone and only robs capitalists."
Namjoon sighed as he put on his shoes. "Misogyny is a disease, my child, and capitalists are infestations. The world needs Spider-Woman more than ever now so be a dear and buy everything that's on the list or clean the bathroom for a month."
"Appa!"
"Go get the book you wanted to buy with the remaining money, Minki," Namjoon said, throwing her a kiss before going out of the door. "And buy vegetables for the love of your job or you're gonna get old before you're 30."
With that, he left. Minji huffed; Sunoo was at his grandma's and Sohee was at the library. She literally had no other friends. Only if she was close enough with that pretty senior, Ryujin…
Suddenly, a phone call broke her out of her trance. She didn't even watch the name before she received the call.
"Yo, who dis?"
"Apollo. What do you think?"
"Ooh, Mr. Min! Do we have a mission?"
Yoongi, from the other side, sighed. "I can't call my future daughter to ask for my boyfriend? Didn't you guys have plans?"
"Yeah," Minji said, her tone now sort of out of character. "He's got an important meeting. So yeah, I'm gonna go alone now."
"Where are the rest of the twerps?"
"Busy with family and studies, unlike me. They've got a life."
"Sucks to be you, damn. I'll call you later, then. Bye, twerp. Don't do something I'd do!" With that, Yoongi hung up.
Minji stared at the dark screen, feeling bad for herself. Her life was good, she had good friends, her teachers loved her, she had a healthy dad-daughter relationship with her father and her mentor was going to be her other father. But the crime rates increased dramatically these days and as much as she loved sorting them out, she felt burnt out. Especially when fighting several crimes back to back made her more stressed and everything added on until she started making minor mistakes. Each mistake was nitpicked by several news channels until one of them started blowing things out of proportion and Min Yoongi had to sue their ass.
Namjoon pretended to not let that affect him but Minji saw her father regulate his breathing after he turned off the news channel. Things were quite chaotic now. Yeah, sure that a creepy teacher of their school getting admitted to hospital after an accident was a sexual predator and that was relieving since he went into a perpetual state of paralysis. Yet, that one good news was doing nothing to divert her attention from the fact that crimes against people increased tenfold. Nowadays, every time her father went out Minji felt her Spider senses acting up and she didn't calm down until her father came back home unscathed.
