Today was Minji's talent show. Namjoon put on his best button up shirt and pants and styled his hair better than any other day. The children had to report to school earlier for the last stage rehearsal so Minji was gone early. Now, Namjoon took his sweet time to get ready and leave the house.
As soon as he left the house, a few women were already coincidentally outside their house to greet him and ask him where he was going. At one point when the girl of twenty approached him, he wanted to run away because clearly she never got the hint that Namjoon just wasn't into younger people. Finally, avoiding everyone, he escaped and took the cab to her school. Yoongi said he would be there as soon as his meeting ended.
He arrived a bit earlier than he intended. There were several parents outside, talking or simply waiting for the cue to move in.
"Hello, Namjoon-ssi." Namjoon turned around to see a familiar face. It was the mother of one of Minji's classmates. They met during meetings with teachers or during events at school but never really spoke much besides some small talk. Well, Sunoo's mother was running a bit late so it wasn't much of a problem to talk to her.
"Hello, Soojin-ssi. How are you?"
They spoke for some time and Namjoon really didn't mind talking to her. She was pleasant to talk to. At one particular moment, their conversation steered back to their kids.
"Namjoon-ssi, is your wife always busy with her work? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love seeing you babysit your child but as a mother, isn't she supposed to… you know? I hope I'm not intruding–"
"Absolutely not, Soojin-ssi," Namjoon waved her concern away even though the question didn't sit right with him. "I'm a single father. Also, I don't babysit my child, I'm her parent. It's my responsibility to take care of her."
"That's great." She then chuckles. "My husband is so busy, he never really comes to my son's school events. Jihoon had been telling him for years but still he can't make time for him."
Namjoon frowned. Did people just have kids because they thought it would be fun? Soojin's chuckle was clearly meant to be light and funny but…
"Forgive me, Soojin-ssi," Namjoon gave her a tight-lipped smile. "But I'm not sure your husband understands how he's foregoing the responsibility of a father. Your son is just growing up and understanding how his father doesn't care enough to come to any of the school events. He doesn't have to come to all, y'know, but he's a parent too. You're not the only parent and the only one with responsibility."
Soojin's smile fell for a microsecond but regained it soon. "Namjoon-ssi, he is a working man, of course we have to understand from his part. I'm a stay-at-home mother, it's natural for me to bear the responsibilities."
"Soojin-ssi, I'm a working person too but I make time with my daughter because I love her and want her to realize that no work, absolutely nothing, in this world is a bigger priority than her. You and your husband are married, and you're a team. You can't be the only one with the responsibility to tie everyone close as a family. He has to try too or your son will later come to think that his father has bigger priorities than him." Soojin was quiet. She didn't seem angry but she did seem to think something. Just then Sunoo's mother called Namjoon's name and he excused himself from the other woman to go greet her.
Soojin was silent, toying the phone in her hand and after a few moments of contemplation, she called someone.

Namjoon and Eunji headed inside the auditorium and immediately took their seats towards the front. Minji, Sunoo and Sohee; all three of them were performing. Namjoon put his bag on a seat beside him, saving it for Yoongi.
