I woke up to the sound of wood and metal creaking and the moment I heard the sound my eyes shot open to see the thick wooden but metal door leading to the prison cells being open. It took me a moment to remember where I was and as I did it all came back to me. I remember walking to my mate's pack with the blonde she-wolf as she profusely apologized about her mate's behavior. And continued to tell me how he was is a sweet guy once you get to know him even if he an idiot most of the time. She walked me down to the cells before opening the door at the very end of the hallway as it was the biggest cell they had and it was also the best cell to have any privacy. The cell also had a perfect view of the door that leads into the cells and it was also curved. So it gave me a perfect view of the other cells and the door but you can't see inside this cell from the door as you can only see inside of it once you are in front of it depending on where you stand.

The inside of the cell looked just as dark and cold as the outside of the cell. It also smelt of bleach and the metallic scent of metal as well as rust and there was still a small hint of the coppery scent of blood that seemed to linger in the air. The only lights in the prison cells were from the one dinky light by the door to the prison cells. That light is all you need when as an animal shifter you can see in the dark just as well as a human can see during the day. Although no one can see in absolute darkness you still need some kind of light to see to reflect through the darkness so one may have the ability to see in the dark. The walls were made of gray stoned concrete but I know they probably have a titanium wall behind the concrete one to ensure that no animal shifter can escape the prison. Since animal shifters are stronger than humans they need to ensure that once an animal shifter has been captured and locked up they can't use the superhuman strength to break the wall away to be able to escape. They have large strong titanium and silver chains attached to the walls inside each of the cells and they were smaller shackles for the ones that they want in human forms and bigger versions of those shackles that they have for when they keep them in their animal forms. These chains have been endowed with magical properties that once these chains have been placed on the animal shifter it then makes them unable to use their powers including shifting back and forth people their animal form and their human form.

After the she-wolf showed me to the cell I would be staying in my mate then tried to convince me to reconsider explaining that he didn't like the thought of his mate staying here in these cells. And told me how he would find me a nice room inside the main estate with him where I would be more comfortable. I couldn't help but feel warmed by his kindness and his compassion that I couldn't resist kissing his cheek before stepping back into the cell and telling the she-wolf to shut the door. The moment she shut the door I heard the door click as it automatically locked and the moment we heard the click signaling that the door was locked I could see sadness well up in his eyes as well as a look of betrayal on his face. I smiled at him to show him I was alright as he took a step forward to stand directly in front of the cell doors still looking worried at my being there. As he got up to the doors he stuck his hand through the bars and as he did I reached out and grabbed his hand in mine and gave a reassuring squeeze before letting go and stepping backward out of his reach. He looked so conflicted and hurt at the same time but I knew this was the only to give him and his people to feel safe so I knew this was the best thing I could do for him.

He continued to stare at me until she-wolf forced him to leave and I continued to watch them until they were gone and out of my sight. I looked around the cell and it looked filthy even though I knew it wasn't I could still smell a hint of bleach all around the cell like it had just been cleaned earlier in the day. And despite the cell's dirty appearance, there wasn't a speck of dirt on the floor proving to me this cell wasn't that dirty in the first place. Along the walls of the cell, there were four sets of those chains attached to the walls and there was two of each of those type of chains. Besides the chains, there was nothing else inside the cell which was fine with me because even if there was a bed in there I still wouldn't have used it. I haven't slept on a bed in a long time so I wouldn't know how to feel about sleeping on one now. Not only that but it is much easier to stay alert when sleeping on the ground than on a bed so you don't have to worry about hurting yourself if you roll off of it to avoid getting attacked by someone.
