Chapter 9: Jack's ex

The next day

I was so confused. Jack told me yesterday that Jack J was "attracted" to me. How is that possible? Normally all the girls fall for him. I must admit, I do think he's attractive. But not attractive enough for me to fall for him. But that must be a lie. He can't be falling for me. He has so many girls chasing after them...why would he want me? Exactly, he doesn't. But I honestly couldn't care less about Jack. I like Brent. Besides, he's been my best friend for so long and I feel better being around him then Jack. Why am I even thinking about this? I obviously like Brent, and now I have a date with him! Even though it was a week away, I couldn't wait.
When I woke up, I checked the time. It was almost ten am. I got up and got dressed. I threw on a coral long sleeve shirt, white denim shorts, and white converse. I put a headband in my hair and just left it down.
I went downstairs to find Jack and Jack waiting. "Took you long enough." Said Jack G. "I didn't know you were waiting on me..." I say. "We're gonna get Starbucks, wanna come?" Asked Jack J. "Yeah sure." I said while going back upstairs. I did light makeup, got my coral Vera Bradley cross body bag, my shades, my phone, and I went back downstairs when I was done. Jack G rolled his eyes. "Why do girls take so long?" He asked. "I took five minutes!" I reply. "Whatever, let's go." Said Jack J; while seeming irritated by our bickering. We got in Jack G's car and drove to Starbucks.

We got there in about ten minutes. When we walked in I saw Jack J's eyes get wider. He seemed shocked; for whatever reason I don't know. We went up to the counter to order. Jack G went up by himself because Jack J stopped me. "Can you do me a favor?" He whispered. I nodded reluctantly. "Yeah....I guess..." I say. "Good thanks." He said. He wrapped his left arm tightly around my waist. "Please, just go along with it." He said; seeming desperate. I kinda felt bad for him; even though I had no idea what was going on. "Ok..." I said as we started walking towards Jack G. He gave us a look as if he was saying: "What's this?" Jack an picked up on it. "I'll explain to both of you later." He said. Jack G just nodded. When we got our drinks we found a table and sat down. Jack J sat by me and Jack G sat on the other side. I noticed Jack J was staring at something. I followed his gaze and it lead to a girl. She was tall, with long straight hair. She was a complete toothpick...looked unhealthy... She was with a guy, someone I didn't know obviously. When we were walking to the table I saw she was staring at me with a look of disgust on her face. "That's your ex right?" I asked him. Jack snapped back to reality. "Uhh yeah how'd you know?" He asked. He was blushing a little. "You're staring at her and when we walked past her she was glaring at you and me." I answered. "Yeah, she was cheating on me....we broke up a few weeks ago..." He added. "So you're trying to make her jealous?" I ask. "I don't know...but she probably thinks I'm missing her but I'm not. I just don't have a girlfriend so...." He said. "Ohh I get it." I say. I could see out of the corner of my eye that Jack G was smirking at us. "What?" We asked in unison. "Funny how you chose her as your 'girlfriend'" Jack said with air quotes when he said girlfriend. "Well she was the only girl around and I knew she'd help me so..." Jack J said. "It's not like he's my boyfriend." I added. "Yeah." Jack said. Jack G continued smirking. "Yeah ok..." He said slyly. "Let's just go." Said Jack J. "Ok." Jack and I answered. When we stood up Jack J grabbed my hand and interlocked mine with his. "You guys ready?" Jack G asks. "Yeah." Jack J and I say at the same time. We started to leave. As we walked past the Jack's ex's table, the girl said: "I see you finally got over me", in a rude tone. Jack J turned around to face her. "Hate to break it to you Mallory, but I've been over you." Jack said while squeezing my hand harder. We turned around and walked away.
We got back in the car. Jack G got in the driver's seat. Thinking Jack J was gonna sit in the front, I got in the back. But Jack came in the back with me. He sighed. "Are you ok?" I asked. I felt really bad for him now considering I knew what was going on now. "Yeah....yeah I'm fine." He said sadly. "I'm sorry I dragged you into this." Jack said. "It's ok. She kinda deserved it. She seemed rude..." I said. Jack just looked at me with his big eyes. They looked more green today, but they were still blue. I could feel myself blush a little and I saw he was too. Why did I feel like this when he looked at me? I don't even like him that way. And why did I like it when he put his arm around me? This doesn't make any sense... But as I've said many times before, his eyes made my heart melt. The things you do to me... I thought. "What?" He smiled. His smile was amazing too. His face became redder. "Huh?" I replied. "What did I do to you?" He asked again. He was still smiling. Oh crap! I said that out loud! "Ummm....nothing, nothing at all...." I said nervously. He kept staring at me. I felt like he got closer. Suddenly, Jack G shouted: "We're home love birds!!" Jack and I stopped staring at each other and got out of the car abruptly. All three of us walked inside, but Jack G stopped me before we went inside. "So you say you're not attracted to him?" He asked slyly. I slapped him on the arm. "No I'm not shut up!" I said. He started laughing as we walked inside.
