"That fair was your last chance to show your invention to the world Doctor that our funding wasn't being put into something useless but since the fair was attacked by a man in a scorpion suit it was ended early over safety concerns and property damage! thankfully spider man was there to save the day again"
Currently the board of directors were in a meeting with one of their lead scientists. He was meant to display a new invention he's been working on at the Alchemax fair but due to the attack it was cancelled before he could show it. Now he's in front of the board to basically beg them not to cut his funding.
"Sir please, I swear my invention can help the company!"
"No doctor, you had your chance. We'll be cutting your funding unless you have something that could be of interest to us to continue said funding", the head director said leaning back in his chair. The doctor started to sweat nervously trying to think of something before an idea came to mind. He's already been looking into it and already came across great findings in his free time but he wasn't sure if the invention meant for it could be built. It was a risk he was willing to take. He had no choice.
"I have been working on something in my free time"
"And what would that be?"
"Have you heard about he multiverse theory?"
----------------Five Years later Day after Jack and No Name's arrival----------------
The doctor from the board meeting can now be seen in a chair with a bottle of whiskey. Around him were papers scattered and his office looking like a mess. HIs lab coat was taken off and his tie was loose around his neck and his sleeves rolled up. Pouring the whiskey into a glass he took another drink letting out a tired sigh. After five years of research the board decided his research was too costly and cut his funding this morning after showing year after year no signs of progress. Taking his glasses off he looked at a board detailing a machine that he hoped would help them be able to travel the multiverse.
"Where did it all go wrong?"
"Simple, you were missing a key element"

"Ahh!!", he yelled falling out of his chair. No name walked around looking at the multiple boards full of calculations admiring them.
"These are wonderful calculations you made doctor. I can see I came to the right man for what I need. Though you did make some miscalculations I can see, no matter. I'm more than willing to help fix them", No Name said stopping in front of one. The doctor stood up weary of the man if he could call him that. He could sense the power he radiated.
