"Cora?"
Cora Holloway was officially a ghost.
"Honey...it's time to go."
January 12th marked the children's return to Hogwarts and 18 days since her brothers had vanished from her life without a word. 18 days of wandering around the godforsaken house without motive.
The people around her had returned to treating her like a glass ornament, fragile and ready to break at a single wrong word. She had completely reverted to the state she was in a mere 6 months ago. While her brothers hadn't died, it was close. And really when they returned (if Cora wasn't already dead) she would kill them. So Christopher Holloway and Benjamin Walsh were as good as dead in her eyes.
The only people who acted somewhat normally around the manic girl were the twins, who had continued on as usual. Spending their nights 'forcing' (lightly pushing) the girl to help them continue their work on their business, and the days waking her up and helping her to get dressed like a normal human. She had permanent taken resident in Fred's bed, curled up into his side like a wounded puppy. Did they maybe hold her in tight hugs for a few extra seconds, possibly, but Cora wasn't complaining.
Sirius was the only other housemate who didn't look at the poor girl with pain in their eyes. While the twins cared for her in the evenings, Sirius had taken to accompanying her in the days.
Together they occupied the small library, reading all sorts of books in tandem. From fantasy to wizarding lineage they crammed in as much as they could. Cora enjoying the escape, and Sirius enjoying the company while partaking in his favourite hobby. He had taken it up after returning from Azkaban. While he wasn't much of a reader prior to his incarceration, twelve years in hell changed a man.
Sirius had also accompanied the girl as she burnt her bothers name off of their families tree. Holding her hand tightly as the other permantly scarred the wall. Then wrapping her in a large hug as she sobbed. Just two ostracised pure bloods with no family standing in a room.
It was this moment on the 6th of January that Cora began finally comprehending the fact that her brother may never come back. As she looked at Sirius, who had lost every member of his family to death, she actually felt envious. All of her family were alive and yet she was alone.
She felt like a little kid again, the one whose screams rattled around the cold and empty mansion. The girl who spent five years at Hogwarts with no friends. The girl who ruined everything and everyone around her. Cora found it baffling that that girl was so envied, so revered, yet was so sad.
