"hey lord,just cut me loose"

Cora Holloway had never really had a family. Not in the traditional sense of the word anyway. She could only briefly remember a time in her life where she felt love from her mother and father. When she felt connected to her brother. They had never been close. Her parents were always secretive, only telling Cora what she needed to know to be the perfect child. That was even before her brother ran away and left the Holloway Manor in ruin.

But living in that house had taught her right from wrong. It had taught her how to dance like a royal, speak french fluently, make the world fall in love with her. It had taught her to distrust those around her, to never say how she truly felt. But it hadn't taught her prejudice.

She guessed that was why her brain genuinely could not comprehend Clarissa and Daniel Holloway at the right hand of Lord Voldemort himself.

But then again they had always taught her to look behind people's facades. To dig deeper into the true meaning of their words, to see past what they wanted her to.

So maybe she could.

The two (the two and a body) landed back where the tournament had started; Cora felt numb. Even as she hit the ground and the crowd started to cheer. She felt nothing, just simply empty. People started to rush towards them, the band playing a happy tune. Nobody realising the horror of what had just happened.

As she slowly lifted herself off the ground she sat up, bringing her knees up to her chest. One arm wrapped around herself, the other, holding Cedric's cold lifeless hand. Beside her she could hear Harry's cries. She could feel him clutching the body. But she couldn't bring herself to cry in front of the crowd. She wanted to be left alone, to have a final moment with a friend that she cared for.

The friend that she watched die.

A scream rang out and the crowd began to understand that something was wrong, the music stopped, teachers rushed to the scene.  Dumbledore tried to pull Harry off the body, but he refused. Still wanting to protect the older boy he had failed to.

"Dumbledore! What's happened?"

Professor Snape approached her slowly, reaching out to lift the girl off the ground and away from the body. "Do not touch me!" Her body began to shake as he took a few steps back, obviously surprised by the venom in her voice and the coldness in her eyes.
