in my life | EDITH WHISKERS "all these places had their moments with lovers and friends i still can recall"
School life in between all the excitement of the tournament had actually been pretty dull - by Hogwarts' standards at least. Though the homework was piling on, the warmer weather meant studying in the courtyard took less convincing. Any reason Cora Holloway had to lounge in the sun she would take.
In the blink of an eye the 23rd of March had rolled around (something she only knew because the next day was Benjamin's birthday - his 22nd birthday at that). It was a Thursday, 5th period, which happened to be Defence Against the Dark Arts. Now by all means DADA was not her favourite class, was it better than History of Magic? Silly question.
The most harrowing aspect of anyone DADA class was the fact that Professor Moody was absolutely out of his mind. A characteristic that she not only despised, but one that made it hard for her to learn. She however spent most of class ignoring his unlikeable personality, instead looking on the bright side - it was a mostly practical class, filled with almost all of her friends.
That particular class she found herself sitting next to Cassius. She enjoyed sitting next to him rather than the twins or Amelia, as she could actually get her work done. Paying attention in class seemed to be limited to the cold coloured houses.
"Alright! pay attention you pansies!" The slam of the door was enough to get the rowdy class on edge, but the booming voice is what shut them up. Cora shot a look at the friend next her before looking back to the front of the class to see the words The Unforgivable Curses written in big bold letters.
There was a reason for their name, and those curses struck heavy fear into not just the general public, but Cora's mind as well. She knew them well, more than she liked to dwell on. "Today's lesson for those who can't read...is on The Unforgivable Curses! You lot are old enough to be taught the power of these enchantments. Someone name one of the curses for me!"
The class sat in silence for moments, all looking around to see who would dare to speak.
"The Imperius Curse."
"Very good Weasley...which ever one you are. No wonder though, your father knows that one very well. It was a bit of a bloody nuisance for the Ministry after the war! People claimed to only be supporting, You Know Who, because they were under it's influence...Cowards...Anyone else?"
There was a moment of silence before a Ravenclaw named Susie Evans spoke the name of the killing curse ever so quietly.
"The Killing Curse. Simple as that. It kills and it doesn't take mercy. However you all know the story of The Boy Who Lived. Trust me! that doesn't happen often."
