It was close to curfew when I got back to my guest room. I was glad that I avoided people as I was not in the mood for small talk. I was in my wolf form all night. I felt safer being my wolf. Fengmi was strong. She may be smaller for the average omega but her size shouldn't fool you. Her speed and her agility is incredible. She worked hard to get to how she was. She didn't want anyone to take advantage of just for her size.
As it was the middle of the night, someone actually had the audacity to knock and be up so late...after curfew, might I add. I stayed in my wolf form but managed to open the door. It was actually Xichen.
Why was he here?
Lan Xichen smiled and knelt down to my level, "hello, you must be Fengmi," he said, "I apologize for being here after hours but I couldn't wait until morning. I got word from someone that you were having some problems with another omega."
I growled and moved to lay on the bed. I even let him in. I kept my eyes locked on him.
"Are you going to talk to me about it? I want to hear about it from you," he said.
I then shifted to my human form, "would it matter? Would anyone believe me?" I asked.
"I would, I don't take sides," Xichen said.
"His name is Meng Yao. He has a thing for you. We got into a heated argument, that's all," I explained.
"The person who witnessed it told me that not only did you insult his background but he insulted your background. It was even mentioned that you felt a mating pull for me," he said.
"They lied," I replied quickly, "the mating pull I mean, they lied. The others are true."
I could tell Xichen didn't buy it. He knew I was lying about the mating pull but he wasn't going to push me if I wasn't ready, "If you have an issue with him again, please come to me," he said.
"Why?" I asked, "it doesn't matter. Let him do or say whatever he wants."
"There are rules with my pack. As guests they are to be followed if at all possible. I will let you go with a warning only because it was not you who started the argument. Next time, no matter who started it, you will both be punished accordingly," Xichen told me.
"If you so much as try to lay a finger on me, you are in for a rude awakening!" I told him.
"We do not beat disciples as a discipline. It is just writing," he said, "just try to relax a bit, okay."
"Why should I? I am here in a territory filled with alphas. I was completely fine earlier until that omega came up to me. I do not care who he is. If I am given a problem, I can solve it on my own. If I have issues here, I will leave immediately and not come back here!" I told him. I didn't even realize I had tears in my eyes, "I've already experienced what it's like to be abandoned and uncared for. I do not need any more of that!"
Lan Xichen was quiet. I let out a sigh and sat down on my bed. I was a mess and it was all because of this alpha in front of me, "Xingyue, I am sorry that you are struggling right now. I apologize if I upset you in any way."
"It's fine," I said, "if that is all, I'd like to get back to sleep."
"Right," he said, "I will see you tomorrow."
Once he was gone, I shifted to my wolf again and just curled up on the bed. I hated this feeling. My heart ached and it had no reason to. I wanted to just let all this mess go. From now on, I will just ignore Meng Yao. It's the best option I have right now. If things get worse, I will write to Baoshan and tell her what is happening here.
The following day, we met at the training grounds. There were test dummies and targets all over the field. Each of us was to shift and take out a few of the targets. Everyone seemed to do well, including the omegas though they couldn't fully take down some of the tougher targets. Even Meng Yao couldn't. The Jin Pack was different from most packs. They consisted of tigers but Meng Yao had a lion on his mother's side. So he was a lion and tiger hybrid that was also an omega. Suits him I suppose.
"Cai Xingyue, it's your turn," Xichen told me.
Why did he have to be the one to teach this class? I questioned but then I remembered this was Wuxian and Wangji's original class that they teach. They were on leave due to the pups they just had.
When I shifted to Fengmi, I heard many people quietly laughing. Saying how pitiful of an excuse I look for an omega for being so small. It only made me more annoyed and angry. I was going to shut them up through actions. Within a split second, I took off and took out the targets one by one. Tearing them apart as if they were actually prey. The others no longer were laughing. I may look small but I was feisty.
I shifted back to my human form and went back to my spot, "anything to improve?" I asked.
"Not at all," Xichen said, "it goes to show that even size does not matter when it comes to fighting. Never underestimate your opponents. Xingyue is a good example. Yes she is a bit smaller and she is an omega, but that does not stop her from fighting or defending herself or others if needed. Keep that in mind."
"Yes, Pack Leader Lan," the class said.
I felt eyes on me again. I saw that Meng Yao was boring holes into the back of my skull. I could tell that he was very upset with how things went. He wasn't expecting me to be so strong. Don't get me wrong, from what I heard, Wei Wuxian's wolf Chenqing was a wolf you don't want to underestimate either. So the fact that Meng Yao underestimated me was a bit surprising. I wasn't going to let this fool get the best of me. I was going to be better and do what I could to stay away from him.
