Eldora’ POV
The rumors had been getting louder.
Ever since that day Luna told mother, my life has been matched between therapy sessions with mother, heartbreaking confessions with Luna, or talking to Kenzie. After much bothering from Luna, I had given him a chance. He was sweet and kind, not as desperate as at first.
It had been a fortnight, and Luna could still not come near mother without mother loosing it. The servants were starting to talk about the Queens erratic behavior, and this was unsettling for their Queen to be in a compromising state of mind.
Luna was never close by, hiding in the depths of the castle. Whenever I sought her out, Ashton was close behind. I had caught them kissing once, and felt jealousy and envy. My younger, unwanted sibling became a gorgeous beauty, and fell in love.
Everything that was supposed to happen to me happened to Luna. However, I was truly happy for her. She deserved a man to treat her right. Even if her love life was finally becoming existence, the trouble she put on my mother’s mind was ruining her.
When I suggested this to my mother, after a depressing visit from Luna, she did not want her just hidden in the castle she wanted her gone. Her phrasing reference the death of her own daughter, I quickly ran to tell Luna to leave, before the Queen signed her daughter’s death warrant.
Father had been even more absent in our lives since mother became mad, showing up at the most random times, and madder than a hellhound when he left. I had asked, and mother tearfully told me it was because she refused to tell him what was wrong, for fear of being blamed of adultery.
I knew that my father had gained a glimpse that whatever mother was mad about was because of Luna, and the scolding from him had been harsh. He had raised a hand to hit her, and Ashton had barged in to stop him.
Derek, strolling through as if he owned the place, interrupted my musings. He was an infuriating character, his snide childish remarks sending my anger rising. I had been on my way to Luna’s room to tell her to depart at once, and Derek just tipped me a non-existent hat and joined me.
He soon veered off, my clouded thoughts ruining his perky pessimistic attitude. The heart pounding fear of heartache killed my chest, and I wished to never reach my doomed sister’s door. I was not expecting her to be waiting in the doorway, as if she heard me. Of course she did, her hearing was not normal. I could see her hopeful face fall when I came closer, and she ushered me into the room.
“What troubles you so Eldora? Has something gone wrong with mother? What did she say? Should I visit? I wonder if she would be fine, I hope she accepts me eventually.”
I wished to put this in the most delicate way, and as I stood with my mouth hanging open, ready to send my sister, my beloved sister, far away.
“Mother has thought to have you killed Luna. Your presence disturbs her so much; you create a fear in her that grips her like a vise. I bide you to flee, before she does send the letter that makes you dead.”
Luna stood stoic, her body frozen, her eyes swirling in pain. Before I could continue, she let loose a painful howl, silent compared to the ones out in the night, but enough to rocket around the room.
Luna’s POV
If I ever thought that a person you claim to have been the one to nurture you as a baby turned into a creature wishing you dead, you would have dismissed it. Even I had dismissed it. Never less, here stood my sister, telling me to leave before she killed me. I needed Ashton, his calming soul.
