"I'm gonna take you out today," Keiji said. You looked at him strangely.
"I have work today."
"Not anymore. This is important. I feel like we need some time together."
"Keiji, I can't just not show up to work, they need me."
"If you're sick there's nothing they can do about it."
"I'm not sick."
"C'mon, Y/N." He whined a little, "I want... to do something nice. I know your birthday is coming up soon."
"Then do something on a day I'm not working. I'm not gonna lie to Shin and Nao."
Keiji needed to do it today. If he didn't do it today, he didn't know when he would.
"...Please." He said, "I promise... It'll be worth your time."
You wanted to say no. You needed to work, and you really didn't want to let Shin and Nao down, but...
"Okay. I'll call them and tell them I'm sick." You decided.
Keiji smiled, and you sighed.

Things hadn't been going well with Keiji for a few months, but the last month really just was the worst.
And you weren't sure you wanted to be with him anymore.
The kindness you'd seen from Nao and Shin as friends was more than you got with Keiji as your boyfriend.
You didn't think this relationship was what you needed with him.
And you needed to tell him soon. You didn't want to lead him on anymore. Even if you felt like the love in the relationship had died, you still cared for him.
You loved him, but not like that anymore.
You weren't scheduled to start until four, so you'd woken up at noon, and had until five before Keiji took you out for dinner. You didn't want to look super fancy. You didn't know where he was taking you, and why, but you really didn't want to get super dressed up.
