"I thought you lived with your parents and Kanna?" You asked. After both taking some medication for your headaches, you continued your conversations in the morning before heading to work.
"Nope. I live... somewhat nearby, but I live by myself. That's why I always pick up Kanna from her studying and hangout sessions if I'm able to.
"So you live alone? So do I." You joked. Except it wasn't really much of a joke. It was the truth, now.
"What are you implying?"
"We can have sleepovers." You smiled.
Shin chuckled. "It's almost time for my shift to start. Do you want to just hang out in the break room until you start or do you wanna walk to work once it's time?"
"I'll go with you." You decided. "Even if I won't be able to talk to you for an hour, it'll be easier than walking by myself in the cold and rain."
"Rain?" Shin looked outside, "Oh. Rain." He turned back to you, "Alright. We should get going, then."

You were grateful for your job and your new friend. Shin showed you kindness you hadn't seen before.
But maybe you didn't deserve his kindness.
After your shift, Shin took you to the store, as per your request.
"I'll be quick." You said, "I just need to grab a few things."
He smiled at you before you closed the door and went into the store.
You grabbed a thing of cake mix, a dozen eggs, and finally, a gallon of milk. You opened the glass door and grabbed the container. When you closed the door, you turned around to see someone right behind you.
"Oh, sorry." You mumbled, beginning to walk away. Before you could, though, the person grabbed your arm, forcing you to look at them.
"Y/N." Sou Hiyori said, smiling at you.
You furrowed your eyebrows. You tried to pull your arm away, but his grip got tighter, his fingers pressing into your skin. He'd gotten stronger since high school.
"What do you want?" Sure. You'd engage in conversation. It's not like you could do anything else in this situation.
"I want to explain everything."
"I don't want to listen to you." You tried pulling away again, but Hiyori pulled harder, bringing you closer. He held you by the shoulders, now. The distance between you two had halved.
He wouldn't do anything crazy. You were in a grocery store at eight at night. He was never violent, either.
He wouldn't hurt you.
Physically.
"Won't you?" He said quietly, "Really, I just want to talk."
You didn't believe him. But you really needed to get back out to Shin.
"Fine. But not here, right now." You hesitated, trying to figure out where you could go.
"Asuni Park?" Hiyori asked, "Tomorrow. Before your shift. I'll be done before then, alright? Meet me at noon." He let go before you got to confirm, and walked away.
You watched him disappear, and you sighed.

You got back into Shin's car quickly, all your items in a bag. You sighed.
"You alright?" He asked.
"...Hiyori." You sighed again.
"Did he do something?" Shin asked sounding more worried now.
You should tell Shin what happened.
"He wants to meet up."
"...You said no, right?"
You didn't respond.
He asked a different question, "...When?"
"Tomorrow at noon."
"I'll bring you."
"Stay the night."

"I wanna know what happened." You said.
Shin looked at you confused, "What happened?"
You looked away. You didn't want to say it.
"Oh." Shin bit the inside of his lip. "I knew you guys were 'dating'." He put up air quotes.
"Why air quotes?"
"Hiyori never called it that. It was clear to me that you guys were together, but Hiyori wouldn't admit it to me." You nodded your head, "I didn't want what happened that day."
"Really?"
Shin looked at you, "I was walking to my next class... and he came up behind me and pulled me underneath the stairs."
Hiyori touched his face with his left hand. His hand trailed down his face, his chest, his stomach... Shin felt sick. He didn't want this.
His right hand went back up to cup his face, his left lacing his fingers with Shin's. He practically sat in his lap.
You've heard the story already.
"You're mine."
You bit the inside of your lip. "I'm sorry."
"No, I'm sorry. But, to be fair, because of me, you dodged a bullet. I don't think he even went to our school."
"...What?"
"...Yeah. I don't know. Nobody really knew him. I never saw him go to class or interact with teachers. I don't remember how we met, either."
"I don't either."
"It's frustrating. I can't remember a lot. Just the big things, I guess."
"Yeah. I remember him being a part of my life, and... that day, but I don't... I didn't even remember his funeral until a little over a month ago."
"Funeral..." Shin whispered, "I feel like... I went there. But I don't remember... Anything about it."
You frowned.
