A month later
"Have fun in Miami, be safe, and remember to call me when you get there" Megumi watched Brina, as her fingers moved fastening the zipper on her suitcase while her mind was already dancing with the possibilities of Miami's neon-lit nights.
"Don't worry, Megum, you just call me if there's anything wrong with Ezra or Mizu. Or you can call me when you miss me" Megumi though felt like he was only hearing half of what Brina was saying. Her words, sweet as they were, were competing with the nonstop chatter of his anxious thoughts.
The trip to Miami had been meticulously planned, every detail carefully considered. It was a brief escape, a chance for Brina to embrace the electric pulse of the city with her friend, leaving behind the comforting routines of their life in New York. Yet, as Megumi stood there in the doorway, watching her prepare, he couldn't silence the storm brewing within him.
"Don't drink a lot, you know how you get when you drink," he offered a gentle reminder, his voice laced with concern and affection. He wanted nothing more than for Brina to have a fantastic time, but he couldn't help but worry about her wellbeing.
Brina nodded, her lips curved into a promise. "I promise, I won't drink a lot." Megumi nodded, his eyes locked with Brina's as he tried to convey the depth of his emotions. "I know you'll have a great time, and I want you to enjoy every moment. Just... stay safe, okay?"
"I'll be safe, Megumi. I promise. And I'll make sure to call you when I arrive."
