Chapter 13

Sophie had waited about a week before Dex had finally finished the Keefe-tracker.

"You have it?" Sophie asked, rather impatiently, but she couldn't care, she was this close to finding Keefe!

"Yeah, yeah. Just remember, we're doing this together." Dex told her, as Sophie eagerly held her hands out to take the weird device. "And I'll be holding this. Just in case." Dex eyed her suspiciously.

"Okay. Can we go now?" Sophie asked, she had half the mind to just grab the device right outta Dex's hand, and leap away. Actually, she should probab-

"No. We need to get the others." Dex paused. "Although, we could skip Wonder Boy if you want to."

"How about just you and I? That's all we need. You with your technology, and me with my teleporting, and all my other abilities." Sophie suggested.

"Like running into walls, oh great and powerful Foss Boss!" Dex teased. 

"But it's not up for debate. What if the Neverseen were to ambush us? We'd be outnumbered. We need our friends, no matter how annoying they can be." He told her.

"Okay," Sophie started. "What if I hold the device, and you call our friends on your imparter." She suggested, reaching her hand out for him to hand the Keefe-tracker over.

"No, no, no. I'm not stupid. If I hand this over, then you'll just run after Keefe all by yourself!" He told her, clutching the device close to his chest, and turning in a way that it seemed he was trying to shield it from her.

"I won't..." Dex raised an eyebrow. "...probably."

"'Probably won't' ain't a 'Definitely won't'. You're not going by yourself, Sophie. Why is it so hard for you to just bring your friends along? We're not a burden, you know! So stop being so difficuly and let us help!" Dex seemed frustrated, but Sophie couldn't let them be in danger. Besides it was her fault Keefe was gone. Not theirs.

"Dex..." Sophie sighed, shaking her head. "I'm going home. See you tomorrow at school, I guess..."

She wasn't really going to give up. No, she was going to get that device, and find Keefe. Without her friends helping her.
