(Before we begin, quick warning, this chapter is very... emotional? Most emotional scene I've ever written at least, so let me know how well I did with it. Anyways, if you guys don't really like that kinda thing, just skip to the end notes for a brief description of what happened, let me know if I need to add a TW)

Keefe's eyes widened with something that Sophie couldn't quite identify in his eyes. "Sophie?" He breathed out in disbelief.

SMACK

In all honesty neither of them expected Sophie to slap Keefe across his cheek. But that's what happened.

Sophie was feeling oh so many emotions right then, but right now, the main emotion that surfaced was anger. She was feeling angry that Keefe left, and hadn't really realized it. She was mad at him, that he just left her with some stupid note, and took off without a word. And he had the audacity to look at her in surprise!? Like- like he didn't think that she'd chase after him without a second thought?!

She was mad, because she missed him so, so very much and- oh. She was crying.

"You idiot! Why?! Why did you leave?!" She screeched with a mix of emotions- anger, relief, confusion, guilt-

"Woah! Foster! Lower the volume there!" Keefe laughed nervously, "I think everyone in the lost cities may of heard you." and oh ho, if he thought she was gonna let him avoid her question, he was sorely mistaken.

"Answer the question, Keefe." She said, calming down enough to keep her voice steady, even though her face was red, and her eyes still leaking a steady stream of tears.

"...I just wanted to keep you safe-" he started before she interrupted him with a punch to the arm. "Don't give me that line of utter crap." Sophie hissed at him, getting up in his personal space. "You left Keefe..." She whispered, and the cursed tremble in her voice returned.

"You left Fitz, and Linh, and Tam, and Dex, and Biana, and... and you left me. And, I want to hate you for that, but I can't..." She clenched her fists. "S-so you're not allowed to go around making jokes about how loud I'm being, when you're the reason I'm shouting like this!"

At least Keefe had the decency to look ashamed. "Look, Sophie, I know, and I'm sorry-"

"'Sorry' doesn't cut it!" Sophie yelled. "Come back to the lost cities, and then we'll talk about 'being sorry'!" She snapped.

"Sophie, I can't." Keefe said, sounding almost pained. "And why can't you?!" Sophie gritted out through her teeth, sounding hurt.

"I- I just can't! Going back would only put you, and the others in more danger!" Keefe finally snapped. "We can take precautions, Keefe! You're being unreasonable!" Sophie yelled.

"I'm not going, Sophie!" He yelled back, before slamming the door shut in her face.

Sophie choked back a sob that almost made its way up her throat. She... she'd come all this way... for nothing? Keefe... wasn't coming back? No, no... that can't be... Sophie didn't want to live the rest of her life without ever seeing Keefe again, without ever knowing what happened to him.

But... she was helpless to do anything, wasn't she? She couldn't force him to come back, he'd just do whatever he did when he first woke up from his coma, and get away...

She clenched her fists, and begrudgingly made her way out of the fancy hotel, completely unaware of what fate was in store for her...

(Summary:

Keefe and Sophie get into a fight, Sophie realizes she can't force him to come with her, and all the while she is completely unaware of the danger that lurks in the near future.)

Sorry for the short chapter, it was indeed rushed, and is more of something to move the plot along. I'm planning on updating hopefully within the next 2 weeks, but we'll see.

Constructive criticism is always welcomed.

Stay safe, and hydrated everyone! ❤️
