Her small body lays there uncovered. IVs stick out of her arms. Bruises covers every inch of her body that was visible making me almost want to look away from her because it reminded me of the past. I run my hands through my hair I don't know how many times wishing this was a dream and I'd wake up soon. But it wasn't a dream, this was real. I turn around and the nurse softly smiles and exits the room leaving me with Wylie. Hesitantly, I walk over and pull a chair up to her bed. I sit thinking about the first thing id say to her when she woke up and saw me. My mind was blank. On instinct, I grab her hand not liking the fact of how cold it was. I shouldn't even be touching her considering the fact she wasn't mine. One squeeze then two more, she gives me.
"Wylie?" I whisper tears brimming my eyes.
"Luke?" Her voice is hoarse but I was ecstatic to here the sound.
"I'm here." Was all I could manage.
"The tour. Why are you here?" She finally opens her eyes presenting her bright green eyes to me.
"The tour doesn't matter right now." I tell her.
"I'm okay. You didn't have to come." She coughs a little and shifts scrunching up her face.
"I didn't have to come but I chose to." I say.
She let's go of my hand laying it on her stomach. "How do I look?"
"Honestly, bad." I chuckle and so does she.
"Thanks." She smiles. "Now that you know I'm okay you can leave." Her words are like venom now and I know why. I for blame her though.
"I'm not going anywhere."
"But I want you to." She says lowly. "You hurt me Luke and seeing you right now is only hurting me more. I can't take it right now." Tears slip down her face landing on her pillow.
It hurt to hear those words from her but it was my fault. John had said to me that being in a relationship with someone on tour wouldn't work out. That it wouldn't last and I believed him. The boys love Wylie and told me not to listen to him but I did. I figured if I let her go now it'd be okay. That she'd get over me and I'd get over her but that wasn't the case for me and I can tell it wasn't for her.
"I left to be here with you and I'm not leaving." I tell her flatly and try to swallow the lump forming in my throat.
"I don't care." She shakes her head. "If you stay I'm just going to avoid and ignore you. I'm not over what you did to me and I don't think I'll ever be. Maybe one day but not anytime soon."
"You're serious? You want me to walk out of that door get on a flight and leave?" I question my voice raising a little.
She says silent for a second as turns her head not looking at me. "Yes."
"Wylie." I argue even if I know she's stubborn and won't crack.
"Leave. Please." She looks at me with a quivering chin, breaking my heart.
"Just know that I love you Wylie. You might not think so but I do. I always have. And know that..." I chock up and clear my throat. "That I won't come back unless you want me to. Unless you want me." I stand up walking towards the door with my fist clenched and jaw tense.
"Goodbye Luke." She mumbles softly.
I don't reply and storm out of the room. My hearts beating a million times per second and I want to explode.
"Luke!" My mom shouts after me.
I don't stop I keep walking towards the elevator. Before the steel doors can shut, a hand stops it. Michael. Great.
"What the fuck happened?" Michael asks standing beside me.
"She doesn't want me anymore." My fists clench and my whole body is tense.
"Did she tell you?" He scratches the back of his head. The elevator dings and we walk out of the hospital.
"Tell me what?" I look at him puzzled.
"That she had a miscarriage and it was yours?" I process Michael's words, tears brining my eyes.
"No, wha?" I shake my head and growl.
I take off. I run and run and run. I just run. I didn't know where I was going. Just running aimlessly. My minds running faster then I am and the wind burns my wet cheeks. My heart felt like it had shattered into pieces and Wylie held all the broken pieces. And I had Wylie's heart and I couldn't figure out how to put it back together. As I'm running, Wylie is the only thing I see. Every time I blink and every time I try to think of something else. I don't even know where I'm at but I'm standing in front of a diner. Glowing red lights say 'Marco's Pizzeria'. I step in breathing heavily. No one else is in here but the waitress and she gives me a sympathetic look.
"What can I do for you sir?" She asks sweetly.
"When do you guys close?"
"Five minutes but I'm the only one working right now and you can stay as long as you'd like."
"Thanks." I force a grin.
I sit down at a booth. I fold my hands in front of me and finally regulate my breathing. The waitress, who has to be in her late twenties, comes to the booth and hands me a glass of water. She sits down in front of me and smiles softly.
"I never thought I'd meet you." She blushes putting a strand of hair behind her ear. All I can do is nod.
"What brings you here? You don't look so great and maybe I could help." She offers quietly.
"I really wouldn't want to bother you." I shake my head.
"As of now." She looks at the clock. "I'm off from my shift and have all the time until the morning."
"Everything's so hectic. With the band, with this girl, everything..." I crack.
I tell her everything I can think of. I told her a lot about Wylie. Not about her father or her past but our past. Technically it is a past even though I only ended it a little over a week ago. I tell her about the miscarriage also. I couldn't imagine this women to understand nor help me in any type of way but just talking to this stranger helps me. She nods when she needs to and I can tell she's retaining all of my information.
"What do I do?" I ask desperately feeling like I'm out of options.
"So you love this girl? Like really love her?" She asks in a serious tone. I look at the clock quickly discovering we've been talking for nearly six hours.
"I do." I nod. "Desperately."
"Don't give up. If I were her, I'd react the same way. Maybe even worse." She chuckles softly. "I've found out that only one person is completely right for us. My husband was deployed to Iran two years ago. He was my soulmate." She softly smiles. "I got a knock on my door. Next thing I knew two sergeants were handing me a flag and his necklaces and medals. But he was my other half and I'll never find anyone like him. Wylie sounds like the one. She expected you to leave but really she didn't want you to. Women are weird like that but my advice for you is to fix all of this and go back to her. Give her time though. I wish you the best of luck, Luke."
"Thank you." I immediately stand up and so does she. "Thank you." I hug her tightly.
"Keep in touch. I'm always here so if you ever need anyone to talk to." She scribbles her number on a napkin and hands it to me. I stuff it in my pocket and smile at her feeling reassured.•••••
