Third Person POV :
Sitting at his desk, Jungkook can’t shake off this feeling of inadequacy. The pen between his fingers seems to be the only thing keeping his thoughts grounded. It's been three days since Taehyung had that panic attack, and he’d been trying everything he could to make Taehyung comfortable and befriend him, but nothing seemed to work. He couldn’t help but think it’s all his fault.
He’s never been good at making friends. Sure, there’s Seokjin—his cousin who practically raised him—and Hoseok, the best friend of his cousin, who he’d come to appreciate for his warmth of bright smile and cheerful personality. Jimin, on the other hand, made it impossible for him to remain alone; he took it upon himself to make Jungkook his little brother.
He practically stalked Jungkook ever since he was four till he agreed to be friends with him saying he wanted a cute little brother like him. He wasn't left with any option back then than to agree after nine months of constantly being stalked. And, while he might never admit it to him, he does cherish their bond.
But outside of that, he often finds himself uncomfortable and feeling uneasy in conversations. Even with his other cousins—Sangwoo, Yugyeom and Eunwoo, there’s an ever-present discomfort.
And then there’s Taehyung—a boy he wants to befriend. He craves the sound of his voice, the beauty of his smile that he's yet to witness. Yet, every time he approached, Taehyung only returned with silence, responding only with short words.
Taehyung's nightmares didn’t give him a break after that day. Jungkook found himself waking up on the couch every night, trying to comfort him, pulling him close in hopes of easing his fears, only to fall asleep on the bed under the weight of Taehyung’s grip. It had been their routine every night.
It frustrated him to think he could unknowingly trigger his pain, even if it’s unintentional. The last thing he wants is for Taehyung to relive those terrible moments.
So, he had been contemplating if it was a good idea to seek help from the police or not. Just then, Seokjin’s call interrupted his spiral of self-doubt.
He mentioned that he'd take the detective’s help, but he laid down conditions that he had to talk to that detective first before deciding and that Taehyung won’t meet him and even if he did, his identity shouldn’t be revealed.
Because he knows how fragile Taehyung is right now. He can’t handle more than he’s already faced.
In the last three days, the daily check-ins from his Hyungs have become somewhat of a routine, though Jimin’s constant calls raised his frustration.
On the other hand, these past few days, Taehyung would just sit quietly, either on the bed or the couch, gazing into the distance. Like, doesn’t he ever get bored just doing nothing?
Just yesterday, Jungkook had noticed Taehyung engaging in something on his own when he usually went to ask what he might like for dinner, even though he anticipated silence in return.
Then, unexpectedly, he found Taehyung reading a book he had left on the couch earlier that day. It was his new storybook titled 'Shooky's Magic Shop,' published just a week before he discovered Taehyung in his car.
To Jungkook’s surprise, he noticed a glimmer of something in Taehyung's expression. Could it have been a smile? He wasn’t entirely certain, but he was pretty sure he saw the corners of Taehyung’s lips lift slightly. It was a small yet profound moment that told him Taehyung was enjoying the story.
