CHAPTER NINE
BEFORE THE WORSTprior to the series
NIGHT OF OUTBREAK
Charlotte laughs loudly as the black haired girl spins her around in a circle, her brunette locks flying through the air. They're so out of sync with the music that most people would probably give them an odd look if they cared to take notice of the girls, the two off in their own little world that nobody else has been able to break into. She's been in the country for only a matter of days and yet she feels as if Josephine Gavez is the closest friend she's ever had, the American more than accompanying to her English roommate. Josie, whilst born in the USA, is from out of state to see her sister compete in Charlotte's archery competition. The three of them had hit it off pretty quick, Charlotte and Josephine more so.
"Maybe we should try actually dancing to the beat," Charlotte giggles quietly, hands clasped tightly within Josephine's as the girl pulls her closer.
"Have I ever told you how much I love your accent?" Josephine replies with a question, completely ignoring Charlotte's suggestion. The smaller girl rolls her eyes at her friend which makes Josephine grin, threading her fingers through Charlotte's just that tiniest bit tighter. "Like it's so majestic,"
"It really isn't," Charlotte responds, allowing herself to be spun around a few more times as the cool breeze pushes against her face. "You're just obsessed with it for some reason,"
The party continues around them, the crackle of the bonfire practically drowned out by the music and laughter, everybody seems to be having the time of their life with a bunch of new people they've just met. One of the American competitors had organized the party, wanting to bring them closer together as a group before they had to battle one another in the second part of the championship. The brunette had already managed to claim that first place in the earlier half of the competition.
Charlotte had been desperate to leave her room so she agreed to coming along, stepping a little out of her comfort zone to eliminate her boredom.
Josephine stares down at the blinding smile on her friend's face, Charlotte's expression so bright that she could probably light up the entire wooded area if given the chance. Either the brunette hasn't noticed the other girl's eyes on her or she simply revels in it, her feet moving clumsily as she tries to keep in time with everybody dancing around them. For somebody so introverted, Charlotte looks like she's truly in her element, enjoying the relaxed nature of the party as a way of taking off the stress of the upcoming competition.
"I'm going to and grab another drink, you want one?" Josephine asks loudly, making sure she can be heard over all the other noise. Charlotte nods her head as their hands part, the girl watching as Josie walks back over to the drinks table.
