Chapter 38 - Soul eaters in the house

It's late, almost midnight. I sit by the kitchen table and look outside from the windows, Fred has opened the curtains for the night when the sun is now fully gone. I am almost the only one awake now, only Noa sits in the living room, by a table lamp reading a letter. 

I can hear the table lamp click. "Don't you wanna sleep?" Noa asks, he teleported next to the kitchen. "Ah, just not very sleepy", i answer and turn to look at Noa. "Do you even have a room to sleep in? Or are you still in the basement doctor room?" Noa asks, not seeming to like the idea very much. "How about you? I haven't seen you put your stuff anywhere?" i ask. "I sleep with dad in his room, Drew has gotten my old room a long time ago", Noa explains and looks outside too. "I still sleep in the basement", i admit. "Can i walk you there? There is dark at this time", Noa asks. "Uh sure", i say with a smile. "Come", Noa tells me and starts leading me to the stairs. 

It's quiet when we walk. "So.. Your the oldest?" i ask to kill time. I only kinda hear his steps but cannot see him even tho he is next to me, it's so dark. "Yes. How about you? Got siblings?" Noa asks. "Yeah i got one little brother", i answer and feel the wall in the other side of me. "This is the spot where the stairs turn right", Noa reminds, on time. 

Suddenly Nova stops me by grabbing my arm. "Sh!" he whispers and seems to tense up. I look ahead like a scared deer. "Come", he whispers in my ear and takes my wrist. Noa takes some steps downer and i follow. There is a small corner in the stairs and we stand behind it. He takes a peek. There is a dark silhouette just behind the corner, waiting for someone. 

For a moment it's quiet but then the silhouette just begins to RUN and it hisses.. A soul eater.
