It had been three weeks.

Three weeks since Bella was drafted, three weeks since she said goodbye to her boyfriend, and three weeks since she talked to one of her closest friends. Bella was still confused at to why this happened, but there was no way to get an answer.

She was blocked on all social medias, which hurt. Bella, Chloe and Meredith had always been sisters. What had changed? Chloe was going to find out.

When Bella called Chloe to see what was going on with Meredith, Chloe flew back from New Jersey to Michigan to do what a good friend does, fix things.

Chloe showed up at Meredith's house, knocking on the front door. When Meredith answered, Chloe was shocked by what she'd seen. Meredith's hair was disheveled, her clothes were gross, and she had a glass of what looked like alcohol in her hand.

"Oh, Meredith." Chloe said, her eyes softening at her friend.

"Don't." Meredith snapped

"What's wrong? What do you need?"

"I need for you and Bella to leave me the hell alone." Meredith said

"You know we won't do that." Chloe said

"Why not? Everyone else does." Meredith said, and like a shot in the gut Chloe just looked at her friend. Seeing her like this brought back memories from then the three girls were younger.

~flashback~

"Meredith! That's rude." Bella said.

"So? If they want to be mean, I can be mean right back." Meredith said defending her best friend.

"Thank you for that, but I don't want people to be treated bad." Bella said.

Bella always thought about bright lights it seemed like. But Meredith was always the downer. Maybe that's why no one could see how much pain she was in.

"Yeah, Meredith, I love you, but Bella's gotta fight for herself eventually, someone needs to stick up for you." Chloe said.

"I can do it myself." Meredith snapped.

No one cared before, why should they now. With her mothers recent diagnosis it became harder for Meredith to not share it with her best friends, but she didn't want the pity of the other sixth graders.

Her mother was sick, she wasn't dead.

~end of flashback~

"Meredith, can I come in?" Chloe asked

"No."

"Can I have your glass."

"No. Please, leave." Meredith said shutting the door and walking to the make shift bedroom that use to be the living room. Meredith's mother had beaten cancer once, she could do it again. Right?

Chloe stood outside for a moment, hoping Meredith would come back to the door, but, she didn't. So Chloe left, and went to tell Bella.
