Just before breakfast Lucifer intercepted Asmodeus "what was that about yesterday?" "What do you mean?" Asked Asmodeus "you were trying to make a pass at my maid." Said Lucifer "don't talk nonsense Lucifer." Defended Asmodeus "there's no point in denying it, I saw you both." "Are you crazy? Aren't we even allowed to talk to your employees anymore? And besides, Shinoa looked tense and nervous that night, I just wanted to loosen her up with a dance." Said Asmodeus "we're continuing our travels next week anyway, so relax" Asmodeus went into the breakfast room and left Lucifer behind.
Lucifer gritted his teeth and retreated to his study. After Shinoa's break, she brought Lucifer a small breakfast in the study. "Take it back, I'm not hungry." Grumbled Lucifer, "if you skip lunch or dinner I would accept that but not breakfast, that is the most important meal of the day." Said Shinoa, setting the plate down for him. "That's what the right one says, Saphyra told me you don't eat anything for breakfast either." Said Lucifer and pushed the plate away, Shinoa pushed the plate back in front of him and smiled "I don't have to rule a kingdom like you either your highness." Lucifer looked to her "you counter with that?" Shinoa tilted her head "should I rather say; the kingdom cannot use a weak or sick king?" "Did you have such a loose mouth towards your teachers too?" Asked Lucifer, eating a piece of bread, "no." Answered Shinoa, "but you do to your king?" "When the king acts like a toddler, then yes." Confirmed Shinoa and walked towards the door "can I get you anything else?" Lucifer ate quickly and handed her the plate "you can have that back." Shinoa took the plate, bowed and left the study.
In the afternoon Lucifer joined his children in the library, the three of them sat on the floor in front of the fireplace. Mazikeen held an ancient book in her hands and quizzed her brothers. "How are things with you?" Asked Lucifer, "they are doing well." Said Mazikeen, "how kind of you, Maz." Said Nereus sulkily, Lucifer sat down in the chair, "then let me see what you know so far. Let's start with Beliath. Tell me, what is a crossbreed demon and how do you recognise one?" "You can recognise them by their coral red eyes, they are demon traders so to speak." Answer Beliath, "do you have anything more specific?" Beliath thought for a moment "Crossroads demons, have the power to make deals with humans. They grant humans a wish in exchange for their soul. The soul is taken to hell after ten years by the hounds of hell." Lucifer nodded "Nereus. How do you summon a crossroads demon?" "First of all you need a crossroads, preferably near where Sheep's Yarrow grows, in the middle of the crossroads bury a small box. The box must contain the following: A photo of the summoner, bones of a black cat, graveyard soil, and you can, but you don't have to, add personal things like jewellery. Once you have everything and the box has been buried, the Crossroads Demon will appear." Explained Nereus.
"Beliath, you said earlier that after ten years the soul is taken by a hellhound..." Began Lucifer "the hellhounds are used as debt collectors." Said Beliath without waiting for his father to ask. "The demons with poison green pupils and red sclera, are the third most powerful demons here and they are your friend; Leviathan, Azazel, Asmodeus and Belial. Should there be war with heaven, they are the generals who lead the demon army. The second most powerful demons are the White-Eyed Demons, but there is only one left, Alastair. The most powerful is the King of Hell." Told Nereus, "anyone can learn old history by heart. Tell me, how do you behave when you are invited to a ball?" The brothers looked at each other questioningly and shrugged, "proper table etiquette?" The brothers shrugged again. "Have you slept on our occasions?" Lucifer asked, exasperated. "Something like that." Admitted Beliath, "we used to sneak away because it was so boring. No one ever missed us." Lucifer growled and stood up "don't you dare be a disgrace at the Academy and drag the name of the Royal Family through the mud. Then you'll get to know me properly!" "Father..." Mazikeen was the first to speak, but Lucifer stopped listening and left the room.
"How long did it take to learn all those labels?" Asked Nereus, "a long time. It includes; proper greetings, proper dress on occasions, hairstyle, table manners, topics of conversation, proper gifts." Enumerated Beliath "then we'll just have to learn through the nights too." Nereus said and looked for the books.
A week later the four old demons stood outside the castle gates and said goodbye to everyone. Cana hugged Leviathan "do you really have to go again?" Leviathan nodded "yes, I can't sit around twiddling my thumbs forever." "Then join the soldiers and stay here. With me." Said Cana, Leviathan stroked her head "I'm sorry Cana, but the kingdom needs to be explored further and those three, over there can't do it without me." "But come back soon and not after three thousand years." Said Cana approvingly, Leviathan nodded and kissed her goodbye. Then he ran after the other three. "Don't worry Cana, we'll take good care of him!" Azazel called out to her "I don't doubt it. Take care guys!" She called back.
A little later a carriage from the Royal Academy drove up to the main gate, a nobly dressed butler got out and stepped in front of the gates. "Your Majesty. I am Claude, the butler of the Royal Academy. I have been sent to you to collect the young Princes Beliath and Nereus." He said and bowed. "Pleased to meet you Claude. Children take your luggage to the carriage." The two nodded and took their suitcases. "I hope my children will behave." Said Lucifer, Claude smiled "we are a very strict school, your highness, troublemakers will be punished." "Yes, I know. My year also had a class clown..." Lucifer commented. Claude straightened up and walked over to the brothers by the carriage "you can say goodbyes then we'll be on our way." Beliath and Nereus stood in front of the stairs to the gate and bowed with a straight back. "Goodbye father, goodbye uncle Draven. We will write to you every day and report what we have gone through and learned in class." Said the two at the same time. "Take care boys, don't do anything stupid." Said Draven in farewell. "Don't bring shame on the royal house." Were Lucifer's last words before he turned his back on them and went back inside the castle.
The two princes straightened up and got into the carriage with Claude. The carriage drove off towards the Academy. "You could at least have said a proper goodbye." Draven said following Lucifer into the office. "Don't you have anything better to do than annoy me?" Lucifer asked, sitting down at his desk. "Actually, I was going to ask you... I'd better do that when you're in a good mood again. No hard feelings, see you at dinner." Said Draven quickly and left his brother's study.
Meanwhile, somewhere in the city in the office of a high-rise building
A handsome, fearsome demon, with suit and cigar sat behind his desk.
"HAWK!" Hold it through the loudspeakers throughout the building, a demon with a gun holster around his shoulder rushed to the office "you called boss?" "Why haven't I received any reports from Morror and Yukino for months?" Growled the demon with the cigar angrily. Hawk was confused "Boss, you're kidding..." "Do I look like I'm joking?! Asked the demon with the cigar "we don't know, you taped his mouth shut." Repeated Hawk. "Then cut his mouth open and bring him here." He ordered "that's going to make a mess boss." Complained Hawk, the demon stubbed out his cigar, "do what I tell you or you'll learn to fly in a minute" "consider it as good as done." Hawk took the lift to the bottom floor and walked to the spy.
A little later Hawk returned with the spy. "So what did you want to tell me then?" The demon with the cigar asked presently. "One of Lucifer's new maids found out what Yukino had planned and after a few weeks was able to produce an antidote. The Supreme General had then overheard a conversation between Morro and Yukino, as a result of which they were both executed." "They were both exterminated?!" Shouted the demon angrily "y-yes" said the spy trembling and taking cover behind Hawk. "You can't punish someone who gives you information. So calm down, Kazuto." Said Hawk to his boss, Kazuto tapped his finger on his desk "what's the maid's name?" "a certain Shinoa" Kazuto looked up "Shinoa? You sure?" "Yes, boss. She also became Lucifer's maid right after." Narrated the spy.
"I could play the woman for years without her noticing anything but that... she could notice that within weeks? She'll pay for that." Kazuto thought "as far as I know she has no friends, I can forget her family too, does she have a new partner?" "No, boss but according to a conversation she had with her work colleagues, she's still waiting for you." Kazuto grinned and leaned forward on his desk "is that so? That's as good as it gets. Keep an eye on the castle and report back to me."
