Chapter 42: Awakening

At breakfast the next day, the question time continued "Why do you have a strand of white feathers on your right wing?" "Why do you have feathers?" "What does your devil form look like?" "Not all at the same time" Draven stopped the three of them, Tracy swallowed her bite "it's ok uncle, the white streak on my grey feathers is probably a pigment disorder. Asked Nereus "not everything is always inherited" replied Lucifer dryly "or because Sphinx was a Pure Demon" said Draven.

Lucifer stood up "be that as it may. Will you excuse me? I have some work to do" "Father, please wait a moment" Tracy stopped him "I'd like to see Alastair and Elijah later" "no way" Lucifer refused "but..." "But nothing, I said 'no'" Lucifer interrupted. "Then at least give me a good reason" demanded Tracy "Shaneeta's coming over" "Shaneeta? What for?" Asked Tracy "I don't think you'll fit into your old clothes" replied Lucifer "yes, but I don't need new clothes now. I'm sure Draven and Alastair have already told you." "Told me what?" Lucifer asked "that I'm about to graduate. I'd like to finish it" replied Tracy "not an option. You don't belong in the human world and besides, as the eldest you still have some obligations" said Lucifer and walked to the door. Tracy stood up angrily and banged her hand on the table "Obligations? As the eldest? All of a sudden you come up with the laws? You've got to be joking!" Lucifer growled "I am the king and your father, you must obey!" Without waiting for another word, Lucifer left the dining room and Tracy sat down again, annoyed.

Mazikeen stood up and went to Tracy "tell me, why are your wings visible and father's aren't?" "Maz, this is a very bad time," Nereus said and pulled his sister away, "you mustn't take father so seriously, he..." "What? He only means well?" Tracy hissed "I know why I decided to leave here, because of him." "I'll have a word with him, maybe I can still convince him," said Draven and stood up, "it was my fault in a way, if I hadn't blabbed he would never have come to Cambridge."

Draven walked to Lucifer's office and entered the room without knocking "Lucifer we need to talk" Lucifer looked up from his papers "good of you to come, I know how to induce Tracy's devil apparition" Draven sat down curiously "and how?" "By making her angry. I could feel her presence change a lot during the fight earlier, so if I keep pushing it, it might work." "And you think it will work?" Draven asked, "Maybe. Lucifer pushed a small box in front of Draven's nose, Draven took it and opened it "the ring is beautiful but I'm already engaged." "It's for Shinoa. I want to ask her to marry me" "and why do you say that like there's a catch?" "Because there is. She doesn't want to be queen, I only realised that when I hurt her. And if I ask her to marry me while I'm king, she should still feel some obligations as queen. So I thought if Tracy is here now, I can abdicate and she can take over hell." Told Lucifer "and you can't even wait a year for her to graduate? You're so full of yourself" Draven snapped at his brother "says the right one. Who only had a girlfriend for a few months and had to propose right away?" Lucifer hissed back, Draven stood up and walked to the door "do what you want but I don't think it's fair of you" he said, opening the door and slamming it behind him.

In the afternoon of the next day, Lucifer summoned his children to the throne room, Lucifer was standing at the window when the four of them came in "you wanted to talk to us?" Beliath asked "Yes, indeed. I've decided to resign in the next few days and retire to a quieter place with Shinoa." Mazikeen smiled "Congratulations Beliath, hell is all yours now" "You made a good choice with Shinoa" said Nereus. The children turned to leave. "Not so fast" Lucifer stopped the four of them "Tracy will rule over hell, she's old enough to do it." Tracy turned round in horror "say that again" Lucifer walked towards his children "you're the first born and you have responsibilities."

Tracy growled, "I don't care what the laws are here. It's been mentioned more than once that I want to graduate in a year and then we'll see. And besides, in all these many, many years, my devilishness has never come out. Too bad for you, without it I'm not allowed on the throne, that's the law." Lucifer became angry "Young lady, you will do as you are told! You have to obey your father!" Nereus stood between the two "Father, please calm down. I fully understand Tracy's point and..." "SHUT UP!" Shouted Lucifer, "don't shout, we're standing in front of you!" Hissed Tracy, Lucifer looked at her coolly "you need to be taught manners first. You will do as I say or else..." "Or what?" Mocked Tracy, Lucifer smiled diabolically "or I'll destroy the earth with all the people you care about but first I'll make them suffer agony." The twins and Mazikeen were shocked by Lucifer's words, but Tracy was trembling with rage and an eerie presence emanated from her.

Lucifer bent down to her "the lives of your friends are in your hands so think well..." Tracy growled and punched her father with all her strength, Lucifer crashed into the nearest pillar "keep my friends out of this!" Beliath, Nereus and Mazikeen looked at Lucifer in surprise "she hit father..." even Lucifer was surprised by the blow, he straightened up and laughed. "What's so funny?" Beliath asked, only getting a nod of his head towards Tracy in response. The children followed his gaze "Tracy... you transformed..." Nereus realised "that was your plan! To make her so angry that her true form awakens" Beliath concluded.

Tracy's eye colour changed to light orange. Two long, curled black horns protrude from her head. She wears a dark red headdress. It falls into a black lace ornament on her forehead. A black tulle veil is attached to the back of the jewellery and falls lightly over her shoulders. A total of four, bat-like, wings protruded from her back in two pairs, with a wingspan larger than herself. Her attire changed to an empire cut, sleeveless, backless, lacy steampunk dress, which reached to the knees. Her devil tail was sticking out from under her dress.

Tracy growled, "You've won, I'll bend to your will." Lucifer smiled "I'm glad you've come to your senses after all." Tracy returned to her original form and walked to the door "where are you going?" "To see Alastair. I want him to erase me from the memories of my friends and teachers, as if I never existed," she replied and left. Beliath looked after her "that wasn't very nice of you, father" Nereus and Mazikeen agreed and also left the throne room.
